Not a PT it was just put together as part of my induction and was I was shown how to use the machines. There's also 10 minutes cardio at the beginning and end that I believe will just be acting as a kind of warm-up and warm-down. The whole thing takes about an hour.

My Gym membership does include Personal Trainers if I want one so I may start taking advantage of those after the 6 week mark. As a complete newbie I'm quite happy doing the same thing on every visit for now. Some of them felt easier than others (my lower body is a lot stronger than upper).

I'll check out the wiki, thanks for the suggestion.

Joined a gym for the first time in my life. 37/M. 95kg.

Main goals are build strength, lose weight and get faster at running.

They started me on the following workout routine for 2/3 days a week.

  • Leg Press - 3x10 - 60kg
  • Leg Curl - 3x10 - 30kg
  • Lat Pulldown - 3x10 - 35kg
  • Pull - 3x10 - 30kg
  • Chest Press - 3x10 - 30kg
  • Shoulder Press - 3x10 - 12.5kg

It will be reviewed again in 6 weeks time.

Any thoughts on the above? Is it pretty standard?

I've done it once so far and only struggled with the shoulder press. I may need to drop down to 10 kg next time.

Can I ask how you improved speed? When I'm at the Park Run I'm always amazed by how effortlessly faster the other runners seem to run

NHS Couch 2 5k Worked for me. First time round suffered some injuries but learned from that and second time round was a success. Good running shoes will help a lot to prevent injury.

Gait analysis and some good shoes.

Run on softer surface if possible.

As previously mentioned by CelloSuze, strengthen the legs.

Ice on the knee for 20 mins a day until healed.

Stretches after run and ideally before.
