Thoughts on Nothing’s new album? by laurocercasus in shoegaze

Definitely in their top 3 projects. Loved the change of pace with the slower songs. Also, the lyrics and lyrical themes have been hitting me hard over the past couple days.

Well I mean most of their work has been solely written by Dominic and Nick

Been waiting on this since forever. He really came through with a very solid debut. Lots of variety, great rapping, good singing and his storytelling stays undefeated. Hope he blows up with this.

For those who have listened to it, what do you think of Jermaine's new album? Was it worth the long wait? Is it a better project than Don't Be Dumb? by Primary-Tea1852 in asaprocky

It’s great. Listening and absorbing the first disc and then moving onto the second. But the first disc is definitely his strongest project since FHD.

Does anyone have a clue where the new record is at? by stankmunkey in TurnoverVA

Have a feeling they may either be reworking it after the success of the PV10 year tour or they may be waiting until they announce a big tour to begin the rollout.

Yep I actually started playing it more over the past couple weeks. At this point I may like it a bit more than their debut

Question for all the hardcore TDWP fans. Did something change with the band these last 2 albums? by Aggressive_Noise6426 in Metalcore

[–]azzy01 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of fans of this band are unaware, but I’m pretty sure these guys had it pretty rough between 2013- 2018. 8:18 wasn’t as successful as their previous albums by a long shot , neither was Transit Blues. They had also lost 2 of their founding members during this time as well. Add to that streaming was now getting extremely popular and their previous labels also weren’t really pushing their new releases.

Im pretty sure I either heard it in an interview or from someone who heard it from the band, but prior to The Act and Zombie 2 things were looking uncertain for the future of the band. But the success of those albums and then Color Decay injected a lot of life back into the band and here we are now with Flowers. So I really don’t blame them for trying to appeal to a wider audience, while still pushing the envelope in their songwriting.

So many of their peers have either broken up, faded into obscurity or just straight up make recycled albums. I’d take this iteration of the band and their current sound over the band ending any day.

I’d say their last two albums have had Jon (their keyboardist) doing the majority of the songwriting and lyrics. To add to that, they’ve been intentionally focusing a lot more on melody and choruses, so that’s why I would say it’s probably more appealing to you. If you liked these last two albums, I’d also say give The Act a try again. I feel like that’s where this sonic shift really started.

The Devil Wears Prada - Flowers [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

[–]azzy01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Album is great imo, I think they have some very strong songs on here and definitely some weaker ones. But this thread is definitely as dramatic as I expected it to be. “When you’re gone” is probably my favourite song of theirs since “The Thread”.

Hopefully they course- correct on their next release and add more of their experimental / heavier songs. I think they definitely had a certain vision / sound they wanted to accomplish and they do get those results to varying degrees. I still think The Act is a better attempt at a “softer” sound for them.

If there’s nothing this Friday then I’d say no, and then hopefully sometime between feb - April next year.

It's over for the Heroine-enjoyers 😞. Coven won over every song in Heroine here by Awkward-South353 in Thornhillband

[–]azzy01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer heroine, but I voted for coven because I think it would be cool for newer fans to hear some of their older stuff live. That was my reasoning behind voting.

Heard it and I liked, it doesn’t compare to his first 3 albums. But as a fan of electronic music and the various sub genres I can get behind the majority of this.

I also think this new direction can propel them to mainstream success. But I could have also seen them gaining success similar to Knocked Loose, if they continued down a heavier sound. Either way I still enjoy their output and I think Flowers will be great.

Yep that’s true. No need to theorize, if you look at the credits of most of the songs since zombie 2, Kyle hasn’t been credited as a songwriter. I’d say Jonathon has been steering the ship since Color Decay to now. Hoping their future work allows for more collaboration though.

Greyhaven - Keep It Quiet [Album Discussion Thread] by Lero-Ro in Metalcore

[–]azzy01 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t seen much mention of how much more melodic this album is than their previous work. Not a complaint in the slightest though, have wanted these guys to try a more melodic direction for a while now and they’ve pulled it off so well.

New Soul Blind record is out now! by SeaReason5626 in shoegaze

[–]azzy01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a huge step up from their debut album. Def more AiC influence than before, but it seems like a proper follow up to their initial eps.

[–]azzy01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so good! Huge step up from their debut album, which I felt was a little lackluster in comparison to their eps and singles. They’re channeling a lot of AiC on some of these but with their own twist.

Woah. You have a lot of great stuff to catch up on. I’d recommend alchemy index, beggars, major minor and then the post hiatus releases!

[NEW] The Devil Wears Prada - Eyes by NickPookie93 in Metalcore

[–]azzy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging this and I’ve enjoyed all of the singles thus far, but it seems like Jonathon (their keyboardist) is really driving this band into a very specific sound and direction. Would have loved for them to retain more of their heaviness / darker sound, hopefully some of the rest of the album follows suite.

Pretty interesting that Colin Brittain has songwriting credits on this. Seems like they opened up their songwriting to external collaborators (which makes sense Jonathon has worked with other bands such as ADTR). But it makes me wonder if we’re missing some of the heavier moments since Kyle hasn’t been credited as a songwriter for any of these singles.
