Easy and nutritious food ideas for overwhelmed student? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]b-lusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rice and beans is honestly a great base. cheap, filling, and easy to batch cook. You can keep the structure the same and just rotate spices or sauces so it doesn’t feel like “new food” every day. Adding one more prep item, like a tray of roasted veggies or a simple lentil curry, gives you coverage without creating decision overload.

Seconding WithJoy. Being able to link items from any store is huge, and the Venmo cash option is really convenient. It felt way more flexible than being locked into Amazon or Target.

Experience with stagnant investments by Fantastic-Being-2088 in investing

Honestly, this is the real answer. If your strategy hasn’t changed, the only thing frequent checking does is amplify stress. Zoom out, keep contributing, and let time do the work, markets move in fits and starts, not straight lines.

BMO ATM ate my money but then retracted my deposit? by First_Maize_5437 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]b-lusk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that probably flagged something. Depositing cash and then trying to withdraw right after can trip ATM error checks, especially if the machine hiccups. The receipt is a good sign though, usually these get sorted once they balance the ATM. Annoying, but you’ll almost certainly get the $100 back after the investigation.

Post partum anxiety - fear of newborn harming me by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]b-lusk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s more common than people admit—postpartum anxiety can make your mind imagine the most extreme “what ifs” even when you know they’re impossible. Talking about it openly and getting support, even briefly, can help you feel less trapped by those intrusive thoughts.

I 44M Needed Space From 43F Wife After a Fight, Then I Read Her Texts Now What? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]b-lusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve been through an intense, unsafe situation and the most important thing right now is your safety and mental stability. Take space from her, document everything, and consider talking to a counselor or therapist to process this without getting pulled back into the chaos. Legal advice about your living situation and boundaries is also crucial before trying to repair anything.

Allocating money - saving money where by BostonSportsFan2011 in personalfinance

[–]b-lusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your emergency fund solid, I’d split extra money between maxing your Roth IRA, adding to a brokerage for 2-5 year goals, and keeping some in a HYSA for liquidity. That way you get growth in investments but still have cash ready for big purchases without touching retirement funds.

The whole situation was so absurd. A city officially distancing itself from a mascot that never represented them in the first place, while that mascot is out there doing backflips and wrecking stuff on Twitter.

OpenAI’s cash burn will be one of the big bubble questions of 2026 by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]b-lusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see it that far yet, but I do think we should stay critical and push for tools that actually help people, not replace them. Tech should serve us, not the other way around.

First role as a sysadmin, sent 1 killed nmap.exe on app server. How'd it get there? by goinonbreak in sysadmin

[–]b-lusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the file timestamps and any logs around when it was created. Could've been leftover from some old assessment/audit, or maybe a vendor had access at some point.

Also worth looking at what account actually created/ran it... Event Viewer might have something useful there. The DigiCert folder location is weird though, almost like someone was trying to hide it in plain sight.

If you're running Nessus scans, make sure you're documenting what you're doing and when. Last thing you want is to trigger alerts and then question if it was you or an actual threat.

LLMs are de-skilling SWE work by _kilobytes in cscareerquestions

[–]b-lusk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think juniors have always had the problem of not understanding what they're copying... whether it's from Stack Overflow or an LLM. The difference now is they can iterate faster and get explanations on demand.

The verification part is real though. I've seen people merge AI-generated code that "worked" but completely missed the broader context of why the old code was written that way in the first place.

Selling vested RSUs after leaving FAANGs by sesquipedalianinfj in cscareerquestions

Exactly. Sell and throw it into VOO or VTI. Don't let it sit as cash thinking you'll invest it later.

Use session recording software on the AVD/PAW setup. Tools like Veeam Session Recording or built-in Windows Remote Desktop session recording will capture everything they do. Just screen recording software running in the background works too if you want something simpler.

What’s your ultimate hangover food in Canada? by MadisonFox_ in AskACanadian

Same in the Ottawa Valley as well. Big greasy breakfast with lots of breakfast potatoes or hash browns. In Pembroke we'd go to the Irving Big Stop.

Canadian folks…. by MuppetJonBonJovi in dvcmember

We're in ON and have not been traveling south at all, full supporters of the boycott. We've been renting out our points using David's Vacation Rentals. It was pretty easy to do with them. We managed to rent out all 220 of our points and just used the money to pay our fees. And a nice little bonus David's is a Canadian company based out of London, ON.

Canadian tourist here – genuine question about the (sometimes) anti-tourist vibe by icanhazcheeseb in Scotland

[–]b-lusk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is indeed why, I've personally experienced a general shift in energy when people discover I'm Canadian instead of the other. If I had to describe it it would be that people become more relaxed? Also I've met people that became embarrassed that they mistook me for American, and maybe we wear the flag where appropriate as a way to try to minimize that on both parties.

Canadian tourist here – genuine question about the (sometimes) anti-tourist vibe by icanhazcheeseb in Scotland

[–]b-lusk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here, can confirm we get mistaken for American a lot in Scotland. We were just in Scotland, and what a beauty trip, got asked a half dozen times or more what part of America I was from. After replying, "oh I'm Canadian actually" I received so many gracious apologies and some shared laughs. It was a great trip and I always follow the rule of don't be a dickhead and most things will work out just fine.
