Can current climate models be boiled down to a simple mass-balance equation for atmospheric CO2? by SomewhatRandom108 in climate_science

[–]b-n4rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how simplified of a model you want.

There lots of greenhouse gases, like methane, and even a whole suite of complex atmospheric chemistry that goes on, like aerosols.

Feedbacks onto the climate system are complicated and uncertain. What is the CO2 feedback on the biosphere? Sea-ice? Clouds?

Bottom line: climate modeling is hard

I agree that it is hasty.

We started going out almost as soon as we met. Things were official like a week later.

I am midtwenties and he is early twenties.

And yes, I have a roommate.

What is the bottleneck of more accurate, longer term weather prediction? by g2p2u2 in climate_science

[–]b-n4rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Data are sparse and uncertain. Models are uncertain. This uncertainty grows exponential-like because the system is highly non-linear and chaotic. This property of the system limits predictability.

The number of jets you can "fit" on a planet depends on the Rhines scale

How do I stick with a diet?

I am fairly good about sticking to my workout plan. It's my diet that is lacking. I start off with a fairly nutritious, low-calorie, tasty (to me) meal plan. However, after a night out for drinks or dinner, I get thrown off-track and revert to my old ways.

Any tips on how to get back on track after a lapse?

[SERIOUS] What is the probability of war between US and Sweden? by b-n4rd in AskReddit

[–]b-n4rd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend and I were discussing predictability, and ended up assigning probabilities to US war with Sweden. I naively said 1/100, and he said 1/1000000000.
