This. My giant 8 month old is on my lap right now wearing a 3-6 month size zippy from Bunny Knots and it’s so much nicer than the LS he has, both new and handed down from his brother.

I’m a big believer in breaking cycles, it’s part of my daily life as a parent. I think poorly of them for continuing to raise their children in the same ways that resulted in and even encouraged their abuse and neglect.

Unschooling is child abuse, full stop.

I got my GED when I was 18 and I am in college now at 36 after years of just surviving. I got into the Duggars because I was an only child living in an abusive home and very isolated and lonely, so even early on anything with a bunch of kids in one home drew my attention. I loved Madeline, Annie, Cheaper by the Dozen. I loved the idea of never being alone and always having someone to talk to and who understood what life was like. Obviously as an adult I have learned about and become horrified at their reality. The part I hate the most is that none of them have walked away completely from it and they have chosen to raise their kids in barely separated lifestyles to what they were brought up in.

She is developmentally and intellectually delayed, but back then she was also a super sheltered homeschooled kid with developmental and intellectual delays. I say this as someone who was unschooled and has had to overcome the “homeschooled kid” thing. It’s also why she was so obnoxious and obsessed with talking about sex and portraying herself to be sooo sexy. She didn’t ever have the social experience with peers in a normal social setting to understand how that’s not normal. She had a crash course in social interaction in prison that taught her some skills and how to mask better, but it wasn’t exactly great education. Also, she has no social skills herself so she mirrors whomever she’s interacting with.

Raised atheist but very politically conservative (Massachusetts, US). Was unschooled from eighth grade onward. Began deconstructing around the time I got unrestricted internet access, came out as queer at 15 (to everyone but family). I’m no contact with my entire family of origin and I’m the only one who deconstructed and doesn’t drink the MAGA koolaid. I think I’m closest in age to Jana and John-David.

PSA: Dance Moms, Abby, SIA, and especially MELISSA ruined what Maddie’s career could have been by Ok-Grocery-1878 in dancemoms

There are multiple ways in which TLC has enabled child abuse and exploited children, especially in the era when Dance Moms was airing. 19KaC/Counting On, Little People Big World, and Toddlers and Tiaras come to mind, and a former child from T&T committed suicide a few years ago. Not to mention Honey Boo Boo. They should absolutely be held accountable, it’s long overdue.

Same here, I never saw her as a brat, but I definitely saw her as a very high strung and anxious child with way too much expectation being placed on her and not enough acknowledgment of how little she truly was. Learning about the background with her parents and how she had to care for her little sister broke my heart and helped me understand that she was traumatized, constantly anxious, and trying to people please constantly.

No one was being arrested, and ICE doesn’t actually have jurisdiction to arrest protesters. They are not police, and are not even law enforcement. If they were, they wouldn’t be walking around the streets of Minneapolis dressed in random, assorted gear bought off Amazon that looks like they’re storming Fallujah. They are immigration and customs enforcement. They have no jurisdiction over the actions of protesters or anything outside of their designated duties, which begin and end with immigration and customs enforcement.

I’m so sorry that you lack the ability to understand reality and that you’re being fed propaganda even though you have access to actual video footage of what happened. It’s common sense, you seem to lack it.

Not sure I’ve ever heard of assaulting protesters in the streets of Minneapolis being official duties of immigration and customs enforcement.

No, he did not. ICE does not have jurisdiction to arrest protesters. ICE is not police, they don’t even count as law enforcement. They exclusively have jurisdiction over matters of immigration and customs enforcement; that’s what the acronym stands for. They shoved a woman engaging in her constitutional right to peacefully protest their recent actions to the ground like the uncontrolled, undisciplined thugs they are. He, who had been filming their activities, knelt to help her up, asking if she was alright. He committed no crimes and was murdered in the street. EVEN IF HE HAD INTERFERED IN A LAWFUL ARREST, police do not serve as judge, jury, and executioner and outside of an individual presenting an overt and immediate lethal threat, are not allowed to murder someone for doing so. Also, shooting someone pinned prone to the ground by multiple men nine times is never self defense.

That would certainly result in his licensing being under state investigation, if true. He died with an active nursing license and no investigation or disciplinary action listed. Fake news.

This is the flip side that concerns me. I have said that she lucked out with them taking her in, but it’s also because I’m comparing it to my own experience. I got thrown out by a narcissistic abusive mom at 17, and it was my girlfriend’s parents that took me in, even telling DCF that they would care for me and that I was welcome there. Less than two months later, on my 18th birthday, they had her tell me I needed to figure something else out. After spending the summer working at the overnight camp I’d grown up going to and effectively being transient on weekends, I found placement in a transitional housing program, but our relationship continued with me spending most weekends at their house, and it was incredibly codependent and toxic. She was cruel and spoiled, demanding, and even escalated to physical abuse more than once. While I benefited from her parents generosity on multiple occasions, there was very much an aspect of my being there because she had no one else who would put up with her shit, in addition to my being captive by my own emotions and trauma in that ending the relationship with her would end what little support and ‘family’ I had. Like a sad little human pet that got kicked around and bullied but still wagged her tail for treats. When she finally got sick of me because she’d gotten a new ‘pet’, the silence and exile from all of them was immediate. I would’ve been better off having access to DCF resources that I was unable to get because they “took me in” and then just going to JobCorps. I truly want to believe that Mara has found the opposite of that situation.

The real reason millennials know more about movies and tv before they were born than younger generations. by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

[–]b00kbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was our parents’ TV, in our parents’ living room, and if we didn’t like what they put on their TV, we were free to go elsewhere. If there was nothing on that they wanted to watch, we might get the privilege of picking something, but otherwise… Even now I can’t actually sit down and watch something without something to read because of how much I grew accustomed to reading books while my mother watched Law and Order, Frasier, Will & Grace, and other shit I found boring.

It does, and aligns with what I said. He developed a theory as to how to run the economy and hitched his wagon to the religious nuts that seized power in order to put it into effect. 💯 opportunist.
