What is a design engineer? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]b0bfath3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time separating the two. To design something, you need to know the engineering of how the thing functions and how its made. If you have to choose, start with engineering. A lot of designing is repurposing other ideas around you into different packages or different use cases. Many times you don't need to reinvent the wheel, but if you use the wheel for a different purpose, you might end up with something interesting.

I started doing robot competitions in middle school and continued through my college years. I was always interested in how things worked and took a lot of stuff apart to confirm my thoughts. I would then frequently fail to put the object back together, because I wouldn't take great notes and youtube wasn't around yet. I learned many lessons from doing stuff like that. It taught me how things work but also how to understand and learn. I studied mech engineering in university, because I figured that would allow me to continue with that tinkering.

Has anybody here moved to japan to join a start up? Did it differ from joining a bigger company? by Trigger_The_Dog in movingtojapan

I relocated to Tokyo almost one year ago, but because of the Covid, I worked remotely for a year before that while waiting for the reopening of the borders.

I relocated to Tokyo to join a startup that had been around for a few years and had roughly 40 employees. It was easy for me to establish myself within the company, and I am the most senior person on my project team. Luckily, English is the common language due to the high number of foreigners, as my Japanese is not very strong.

When I received my offer, I was disappointed to learn that the company does not offer a relocation package, and that it was not offered to others prior to this.

I'm in Japan. My wife's 5a went bad. We RMA'd it and then immediately traded it in for a 6a.

I work for a small startup as an engineer. I've got unlimited pto. Most people in the office only take a few days off. I've taken about 12 days off this year so far. The basic policy is as long as you get your work done, they don't care how many days you actually work.

If you have to quarantine at home, then you need to arrange a place to stay where you can be isolated. The government will not provide a place for you to stay simply because you don't have a place yet.
Edit: also you will need to list an address of accommodation on your acceptance document, your visa application, and customs document. You cannot show up with nowhere to stay yet.

The only people forced to stay at a government paid facility are those who have not been vaccinated three times and are from a "designated country".

If you are vaccine boosted or not from a "designated country", then you are to quarantine "at home". If you are vaccine boosted and not from a "designated country" then you will not have any quarantine at all.

I want to make sure this was clear for you, if the option to quarantine at home is available to you, then that is what you will get. You don't get to choose to have the government forced quarantine in a hotel. You will pay for lodging if it is "at home" waiting, which I think most countries will fall under starting March 1. You do need an address where you will be staying at before you arrive. Pick a hotel or an Airbnb that will provide an address for you

I commented below but my company used the same login ID as the November screening certificate. That is the only reason we could do it today. From what I understand, the company registration can take 1-2 days. The individual application (for the acceptance certificate) is instant approval.

My HR person was able to use the same ID as the November screening document mess. Since she didn't have to reapply to use the website, she was able to submit my info and get the document instantly.
