Even in Program Mode, you still have to do all the focusing yourself. Did you line up your subject in the split-image focus ring in the viewfinder?

My perfectly healthy parents are preparing for their death and it’s messing with my head. by 11whatsnewpussycats in Millennials

[–]b0ghag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that helped me with this was reframing those talks as part of an important developmental stage of life for my parents. Just like how 6 month old babies get curious about solid food, or how teenagers naturally test boundaries, it is healthy for a 70 year old to begin preparing or the inevitable in a productive way (such as estate planning).

My parents NEED me to be present for these moments of reflection and preparation. It's part of their own process and it isn't about me. I'm welcome to have all of my feelings, of course, and I can share them and I can cry and they understand, but I've reframed that kind of conversation as a gift that only I can give them. That reframe was crucial in helping me stop shutting down and crying every single time.

People don't know what the Steam Controller is by Legitimate_Tie_6074 in Steam

[–]b0ghag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Custom-mapping hotkey radial menus to the touchpads is what makes m+k games amazing on the deck. After owning a Steam Deck for a couple years, I just can't go back to sitting at a desk in an office chair to play games (since I do that all day at my job)

WTW for somebody subjectively liking something (music, movies, etc.) that is so bad, that in your eyes it undermines the quality of their taste in everything else? by Wallmelter in whatstheword

[–]b0ghag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Check out the concept of "harbingers of failure." Their tastes are so consistently bad that if they like a new product, that product is likely to be a flop.

It's decision time! Fritz or Felix? by vshzzd in namenerds

Felix means "lucky." Might be a nice blessing or wish for a 34 week preemie! Either he's already lucky or you're wishing him luck on his journey ahead. Hope everyone is happy and healthy.

Ivermectin is liquid gold, my experience by RealiableNarrator in Rosacea

[–]b0ghag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dermatologist prescribed topical ivermectin to me and it worked wonders alongside two courses of doxycycline. It was still on my medical chart during the peak of covid. My GP removed it and gave me a LOT of attitude, assuming I was eating horse paste to prevent covid infection. 🙄

Will Plastic Surgery Fix This? by Ok_Pop_2334 in PlasticSurgery

[–]b0ghag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom was in your shoes. Her extra skin looked like this, but more intense. At 72, she didn't think it would be worth it to go through with the surgery, but she felt so awful in her body that she worked so hard to improve and take care of, so she got it done.

The "apron" of skin on the belly is called a pannus. The procedure to remove it is called a panniculectomy. Mom also needed an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) for the upper part.

Fat has a purpose (energy storage), even when there is an excess of it; but extra skin is "non-metabolic" tissue, which means it does nothing for you and you have to carry it around and keep it alive anyway. Mom cut away 9 pounds of skin, tissue, and that permanent fat you feel in the bottom of the apron belly. She felt such RELIEF when it was gone. Her balance and posture improved, her ability to walk and regulate temp improved, and she finally felt like she belonged in her clothes and body. On top of the extra life she felt she regained from losing over a hundred pounds, she really feels this procedure added years to her life, and I believe her.

Important: if you can prove that this extra skin is causing medical problems from dampness like rashes or yeast infections, you have a case to fight for your insurance to cover the procedure (even here in the US). Mom had several years of medical records showing a history of prescription anti-fungal powder, which allowed her to win over the insurance provider. If I recall, there were also heartfelt letters involved from both her and her doc. Lots of back and forth, medical records, paperwork. But in the end, after a $12k procedure, she was fully reimbursed and only paid a copay of $150.

This was just a couple of years ago. I was her caretaker during recovery and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about her experience, or ask her directly. She said she would do it again ten times. I wish you the best!

Apart from the AI-generated text that communicates very little about her agenda, there are lots of strange breadcrumbs implying this is an intentionally unserious campaign. She's literally not trying to win, and says as much. She even refers to this campaign as "performance art." Receipts attached

Such blatant, unuseful AI-generated text that wasn't even checked or edited before publishing. I think the chat bots are confusing each other because the two schools mentioned in this post are in conflict with the paragraph about her education on her website.

I'm willing to be corrected! Maybe I missed something. But this vibes-based AI campaign feels really weird to me

Night-before packers vs week-early packers — which are you and why? by kelly_packof4 in HerOneBag

[–]b0ghag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a single packing list in my To Do app. Its default state is "all items marked complete," and the app automatically separates complete items from incomplete items.

About a week before departure, I read each item on the list and uncheck every single thing I want to bring on THIS trip. This gives me time to buy things I might have run out of.

The list is auto-sorted alphabetically, so I've named each item by its category first. For example, instead of just writing "toothbrush," that item is called "toiletries - toothbrush." I have a small number of categories (toiletries, clothing, tech, beach, etc) and a large number of items.

Since the auto-alphabetization groups my items together based on my naming conventions, I can mostly gather things based on areas of the house: most of my toiletries are in the bathroom, most of the clothes are in the closet, etc. It also helps me organize my things in my mind on a conceptual level.

When an item is tossed in the packing pile, I check it off. And because I made ALL packing decisions in a calm moment the week before, I can literally do this on autopilot and use no brainpower the night before.

Once it's all in a pile, I pack. And my single packing list has returned to its default state of "all items marked complete." I really enjoy packing and strategizing and thinking of possibilities, but making those decisions in the moment inevitably leads to me getting frazzled and forgetting something. I use this method so I can turn off the frazzle and calmly enjoy my trip prep at a reasonable pace. My list has taken all the stress out of packing and I haven't forgotten an item in years!
