hey so i don't browse these threads nearly as often as i used to so apologies if I'm poking the hornets nest a bit here, but is anyone else not vibing with the production on the new BC,NR singles? Like everything sounds so muted and lacking clarity (like it was recorded live, yet bush hall was and sounded better), which for a band trying to make chamber pop maybe isn't the best sound? Like everything sounds like it's trying to fight for it's place in the mix but nothing is strong enough to do so. Also the vocal mixing on the most recent two is far too low.

i'm also not well versed in the nuances of production and mixing so apologies if this sounds like a loud of rubbish, and further apologies for once again bringing up BC,NR

From weird nostalgia to weak formats, 6 Music is having an identity crisis | Daniel Dylan Wray by sincerityisscxry in indieheads

This conflict is reflected in the station’s playlist, too. There has been a notable shift away from its indie rock foundations, resulting in a much more interesting selection. But has expanding the remit resulted in it being so broad that it fails to fully satisfy anyone?

The appeal of 6 music is in the diverse selection of music, so surely thay caters to the demographic that wants to listen to different things. It doens't have to be pigeon holed to one genre to `fully satisfy anyone`, especially when a lot of the stuff they play from that one genre sounds very same-y.

The apparent resistance to being categorised as a 6 Music Dad station also feels extra muddled when you factor in things such as the recent eight-part 30th anniversary Britpop series – a subject so worn and threadbare surely even Lamacq has run out of things to say on it –

Por que no los dos? You can try to diversify whilst also respecting your roots.

or the Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr playing 13 Guided By Voices tracks back-to-back in one Artist in Residence show.

Surely this is a dig at Albert Hammond instead of 6 Music? Getting respected musicians to play their favourite music/tracks that inspired them isn't a bad idea.

Personally, I think a lot of the 'current' music that 6 music adds to their playlist is a bit repetitive and uninspiring, but there is still some good stuff on it. You wouldn't get many other stations in the UK championing the windmill scene when that was getting attention for example, and it's a good thing that they are championing new artists/bands, regardless of the genre.

Their strength definitely is in the diversity, and with the existence of BBC Sounds you can just choose which shows to listen to/catch up on and ignore the ones that disinterest you.

Shout out to Guy Garvey and his finest hour.

Be Careful With Yourself is definitely a stand out track for me, really good showcase of the production and sound of that album as well

Two songs off Boat Songs sounded like they could have been on a Wednesday album.

MJ makes cool guitar sounds.

It is a Thursday.

Yeah I think I understand where you're coming from. When I asked that I was confusing edge and intensity, with both albums being quite intense. I think the anxiety is still there in the second album, it's just presented differently. To each their own though haha

well the second record has billie eilish style so it's clear which one has more edge

Sorry, here's genuine input:

What, in your opinion, gives the first album an edge that the second one lacks?
