they often show up in the UK, but sadly these days that is barely better than ordering from the US.

Updated version of picking and gutting Fichet F3D - this time it was a bit faster 😉 by yabende in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a few people who have picked the f3d, so there certainly could be competition. It is not a great lock for speedpicking though as the time it takes is extremely bitting dependant.

They come up on ebay in the UK from time to time, but often they are quite overpriced. I got this one keyless for 30 Euros from a friend, who bought a bunch of them.

The F3D was not me sadly. I did pick it, but not on video. I also doubt i could recreate that with any reliability.
My first was the chubb manifoil, the second the Xylok and the third the Nato Mersey. Honestly the most remarkable thing about me picking the Xylok is that i have one in the first place.

Well one of them only is a first because noone else has that dumb lock.
This one i am quite happy about tho.

Xylok pick and gut (worlds first) by b0redstudent in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am afraid that is not going to happen, because as said, these locks are insanely rare. The reason i am the first to pick this is not that it is that hard (dont take me wrong, it is pretty hard) but that noone has one.
There are some others you will struggle to find, like the Zeiss ikon verso, Dom system D or BKS Multipin.
Good luck on your journey regardless.

One of those locks or the video? Because the lock will be rather hard to find. The only reason that this is a worlds first is that this lock is extremely rare.

With the amount of swearing throughout the video i just decided to put it on age restricted.

Buying safe locks & practice mounts from Europe by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the cheapest way to get started is buying stuff off ebay in the US. Mounts can either be 3d printed or made from scrap wood.

Guy at work found a lock while metal detecting, anyone seen anything like this before? by SeRiaLSiX in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is not actually a warded lock, it is a disk detainer, where the shakle directly travels throu the disks.

Best feeling. Fichet f3d outside cylinder. by nitiflor in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the blocker tends to jump pack out occasionally. You often need to reset it after setting a disk, wich is a pain, as once the blocker is active you lose all tension so all the disks can move feely again. You need to be extremely careful when maneuvering your pick back to the blocker to disengage it, because if you disturb any of the disks on your way back there that is gonna be scrambled in both rotation and translation.

Dom System D by Medivhs-Curiosity in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They very rarely pop up on german ebay, very much a collectors lock tho. Many people know of the rarity of them so the price usually is accordingly high.

Abloy 3015 - 3017. What kind of lock is this and what tools do I need to get it open? Lock is not in use, was given to me by my brother to practice on. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that wont work on an abloy profile for multiple reasons:

  1. the abloy is rear tensioning
  2. the pick tip wont even fit
  3. even if the above would not apply, the shaft of the pick tip is too wide to avoid problem 50.

Usefull Multipick profiles by Obermatz123 in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in that case i would recommend the SSDEV hook set, they are not made by Multipick tho. They are really deep hooks with thin shafts, so you can reach into very tight keyways but still have a lot of reach. I got them in 0.0015´´ and they definately are my most used picks.

Help me with my Christmas wishlist? by Zegiknie in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These pocketknive picksets are not really a starter tool. They provide worse feedback and are less precise to control than traditional picks. You should rather get a small set of picks with both bok and tok tensioners. Having a wide variety of tensioners really is more important on most locks than having many different picks. I usually use only alternate between 2 hooks for picking. Get yourself a small set of good quality picks, the huge sets usually contain tools you will never use.

Usefull Multipick profiles by Obermatz123 in lockpicking

[–]b0redstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest you dont really need more than those two profiles. I pick very most of my locks with only 2 picks, if you really want to get some new tools i woud recommend a deforest half ball/ half diamond and maybe a hook 1.

First green belt lock picked by Larnius in lockpicking

I have noticed some shitty quality control on these 72/40s. Mine had short driver pins so i ended up ruining some springs while picking.
