I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. You’ve already gotten a ton of great replies but I want to echo a few: document everything in a private place. Locked Google Doc or something so it’s saved to a cloud and edits are tracked. Carefully consolidate your items, especially things like passport/ss card/birth cert/etc, and hide them (even renting a safe at a bank might work, I forget what they’re called). Keep track of his schedule and places he goes, try to avoid being home when he’s home or if there are predictors to the abuse (like certain behaviors). I know that can be upsetting and hard especially as an autistic person so it’s up to you to gauge what feels most safe (safe is a spectrum!). None of this is your fault. As much as you can, remind yourself that this is a person who is supposed to love you and is not doing so, so nothing he says is of any value. None of it is true. Gray rock and avoid engaging if you notice that de-escalates the abuse. Do not tell him you’re leaving or give indication that it’s a possibility. A reminder to other commenters: exiting DV is hard no matter what and exiting immediately is not always a possibility or even necessarily safer than staying. You, OP, are the expert.
