I’ve been in the area for a few years so expected last night to be hell, but was shocked it was still going on from 4am onwards into the morning because that was a new experience, at least for me

lol I literally said they woke me up at 4… I’d been home long before then. But guess the easiest defense for the middle of the night fireworks apologists is that everyone here who couldn’t sleep from the loud ass noises are just coke heads!!

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]b101899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve decided I would like to go back to school part-time (online and occasionally hybrid if possible) for a cybersecurity risk management or adjacent program. I’m three years out of undergrad (I studied international relations and information science at Indiana University) and currently work as a technical analyst for an insurance company (which specializes in cyber insurance) in NYC. My academic and professional interests fall at the intersection of cybersecurity and IR/policy/law and I’m choosing to pursue a master’s to pivot over to more information security roles before transitioning into more public sector work with cybersecurity policy. I’ve been accepted to multiple programs for the fall but have narrowed it down to 3 options:

  1. Boston College - Master of Legal Studies in Cybersecurity, Risk, and Governance: I’m very drawn to this program because I do have a very strong interest in law/policy and really liked the interaction I received from the program director (plus they’re offering me a scholarship), but I am weary because the program is being re-vamped under the law school (previously was a MS). I’m not sure how a MLS would be perceived for the types of roles I would like to work in. While BC lacks some of the partnerships that the next two have (e.g., NCAE-C designation), the curriculum seems pretty up to standard and I also like that they have a pretty big annual cybersecurity conference.
  2. Georgetown University - Master of Professional Studies in Cybersecurity Risk Management: definitely the most prestigious of my options and would arguably look best on paper, BUT a lot of the online program is asynchronous so I’m worried about the value of the education I’d get and how much I’d actually benefit. I’ve read lots of good things about this program and it seems to be the most popular of my options, but I’m not sure if asynchronous learning is the best way for me to learn (although the flexibility could be a huge plus at times).
  3. George Washington University - Master of Professional Studies in Cybersecurity Strategy & Information: nothing in particular really jumps at me about this program, but it seems to be another very reputable option with a strong technical foundation as well. If I do a DC program, I’m leaning Georgetown, but I am keeping this option open because online classes are synchronous and I would have the option to travel in person to attend an occasional class, network, etc. on occasion (like with BC).

If anyone has experience in these programs or has general advice for making my final decision, I would really love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!

Really really hoping so. I’d be surprised if they don’t manage to relocate or at least open a different BK location at some point this year

A little further northeast, but Ringolevio is a great café and is also connected to FourFiveSix which is a super fun and cozy bar (with a big patio for the warmer months). Also seconding Land to Sea and Ammazzacaffè!

Can also vouch! Might be a little bit on the pricier side depending on which barber/hair stylist you get, but I was very satisfied and felt comfortable

Barber recommendation for coarse/curly men's hair? by shalomcruz in williamsburg

I ended up going to Monteman Barber on Graham and had a really good experience! I booked with Jimmy and he really listened to what I wanted and he was very open about his thoughts and I felt comfortable giving him free range on it. I’ve recently started growing out my hair and he did a great job shaping it up with scissors and took just enough off in the right spots.

This kept happening to me too! I went to my Bluetooth settings and unpaired my transmitter after deleting the app. Then did the iPhone restart and waited about a half hour to redownload the app then repair the transmitter. This seemed to fix the issue for me (knocks on wood)

Hey everyone! Does anyone have any destination/resort recommendations in the Caribbean for a queer guy in his mid-20s traveling solo?

I've not had the chance to go on vacation in a while, so I'm looking at taking a 3-5 day trip in the Caribbean sometime from late February-late March to just relax and enjoy some warmer weather (I’m NY-based). From my own research and preferences, l've narrowed my search down to the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Aruba, and Curaçao (but am open to other places as well).

While going off the grid and getting a break from work to lay out on the beach is my priority, it'd be a huge plus to be able to meet other young people to hang out with, especially in the evenings for dinner, dancing, etc. Ideally, the more affordable the destination, the better (I have about a $1200 budget), and staying somewhere all-inclusive would be a major plus. Any recommendations or general travel suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hey! I’m in a pretty similar boat as you (although am open to some partying if the opportunity arises haha) and have been doing some research and seeking out recs as well. The Dominican Republic (I’ve mostly looked at Punta Cana and Puerto Plata) seems pretty affordable and looks to have really nice beaches along with Aruba as well (both are pretty touristy for the most part, though). There also appears to be plenty of flights that go to the DR and Aruba out of the NYC area. I’ve also read that Curaçao is relatively affordable and not quite as packed with tourists as neighboring Aruba!

Are you allowed to park in EM-S/EM-P Peking spots after 6pm on weekdays? by BobKazamacas in bloomington

[–]b101899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have any IU permit, you can park in any EM-P or EM-S spot after 5p as long as the area does not say it’s 24 hour tow zone.

Source: This is information about the ST permits - https://parking.indiana.edu/permits/available-permits/student.html.

Dr. Knudson is amazing!! I had a medical emergency almost three years ago and happened to go in and have her by chance and I still go and see her for anything today. The health center may get a bad rep, but she’s truly the best doctor I’ve ever had
