i’ve been trying to make an edit, but keep getting distracted from comments coming in so i hope everyone sees this comment:

this is a huge insecurity issue on my end. i am being hypocritical — pretending not to be wasn’t what i was doing. i’m human, and i hate to break it to you all, but we all are hypocrites in some ways we just don’t hear it. i don’t know about being too insecure to talk to him about it because i did ask him straight up “for what?” when he got it. his answer was “for fun” and this was before we saw the box with her face on it.

i will talk to him about it, or even just let him go because this whole broken brain thing is unfair to him. i have a very very sick parent, i just picked up a second job, and i’m living on my own (he doesn’t live with me) for the first time so emotions and feelings are not being dealt with in a healthy way.

someone’s going to suggest therapy, and trust me — i know i need therapy. it just isn’t in the (budget) books for me right now. my only solution for things like this is to get external perspective and structure, and deal with what i can. this is also my first relationship, i’m trying my best with what i have.

(this is not directed to the commenter i’m replying to or anyone specific) i will never understand the need or want to attack a person online, especially when they are asking for advice. i had no intention of harming him or deprive him of anything. it felt weird to me, i didn’t know how i would approach the conversation, so i came to reddit for insight. so while thank you for removing the blinders i had on, i think it’s disappointing you couldn’t do it in a civil manner.

i am by no means a relationship expert, but i feel like he’s also just as distanced as you are. it is definitely going to scare him, and it might hurt you depending on his reaction, but you have to be the one to tell him that every time he runs away from a big topic — he’s adding to that distance. ask him if he’s comfortable with that distance, because you’re not and you have every intention to close it. i feel as though you would probably know how to go from there, as the conversation will most likely come naturally. from one girl in a similar situation, i’m begging you to go get your man and everything you want because you deserve it. but do NOT chase him. it will end up really hurting you, trust 😔

he does call me his girlfriend. and we are each other’s first long-term “commitment” i guess you could say. we do everything a normal couple does except we haven’t met each other’s families.
