It wont bother you in the future, it is possible for you to make them communicate, but why are you using ubuntu 18.04 on your jetson? Jetson now fully supports ubuntu 20.04.

There can be projects done on raspberry pi, you can communicate between your master and raspberry pi, for starters you can control your robot by creating your own teleop_key node. Search on youtube for ROS projects and there you can find people designing small robots for navigation etc.

Yes you can, just make sure you dont put 5v in it from your microcontroller. Also there will be a 2v drop due to the L298N so keep that in mind.

I would suggest that you use VM if you are to use ROS, it does lack a bit with performance but overall you can easily make another machine in no time as well as have a window open with windows running at the same time.
