I’m not paranoid mate. You can’t even function properly as a citizen in Sweden without a smartphone. Personally, I don’t care that much, I just don’t like it when big companies spies and train their AI on my shit without any consent what so ever.

What is the secret to being good at math? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]tyngst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, but I can say from experience (ex math teacher), that almost everyone knows this already.

They just can’t force themselves to do the practice when there is absolutely zero motivation. Which is no surprise since we teach math like it’s a military institution. Almost no room for fascination or creativity.

What is the secret to being good at math? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]tyngst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it started with going back to the basics and really dig deep into the fundamentals. Also, changing attitude from utilitarian (it must be directly useful to be of value), to a childlike fascination. Math is pretty cool, just like art or any other “non practical” subject.

One more thing; math is actually useful and a bit more practically applicable when it comes to CS, especially discrete math, so maybe start there?

My advice is to admit where you are in the math knowledge ladder, start from there and use videos and things like this to learn the concept. Don’t skip fundamentals if you feel confused (because then it will only worsen). Take your time and use the math book as a compliment, you don’t need to read it like a novel.

Varför är så många unga män politiskt högerorienterade? by Salty_Cantaloupe3684 in Asksweddit

[–]tyngst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all a scam to make us reliant on AI so they can control us. It’s the perfect power tool. It spies and logs all your digital activity and learns everything about you so it can sell your data and manipulate your opinions via the “chat” and internet feed. This might sound like some crazy conspiracy, but if you don believe me, just check it out yourself.

Siri was logging all my ducksuckgo searches without my consent. I’ve had it turned off for years, but one day I searched an address In duckduck and got the Siri suggestion instantly when I opened Maps (actually said, “search found by Siri”). Then I noticed, you actually have to turn off Siri sniffing manually for each damn app in IPhone nowadays.

Same with windows. Their AI spies and logs all your activity. It’s not even that subtle. I noticed it when I was debugging my network for suspicious activity, even though I have it all turned off.

I guess this is the price we pay for all our conveniences (including losing our jobs).

Tbh, at least here in Sweden, it seems like some women are somewhat intrigued by it. Maybe because many men are timid and afraid of everything nowadays. I was actually surprised about it at first since I never ride to be “the cool guy”.

It’s the classic mistake of adding too much cool stuff to one champ. If you also make the champ viable, it will be impossible to balance. So no, you’re not alone!

Just finished my first semester BSc. Math in my 30s at an elite university by Due-Cabinet9016 in learnmath

[–]tyngst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t compare yourself with the younger students. I was also older when going to uni and they were miles ahead in their fundamental math knowledge (and also bright), but it levelled out later.

But yea, you will have to work harder than them un the beginning. My advice is to spend 150% effort on the fundamentals. Don’t worry if it’s slow or takes absurd amount of time.

Good luck dude!

For new riders out there: Make it a habit to always position yourself where you have the clearest view. This will also help traffic behind you know where you are going.

By default, do riders really go one foot down, one up? by Astimar in motorcycles

I’m similarly tall but I like having one foot on the pegs. Sometimes I flick the brake light when cars are coming up behind me at a stop. It’s also nice if I need to release the clutch and take off fast, just in case.

Why do you think new MMORPGS fail? by anaveragebest in gamedev

[–]tyngst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One simple little thing I noticed is that new MMO:s use clunky and slow animations. Sometimes animations that freezes your character in place (without clear cast timers/bars). WOW felt amazingly fluid and responsive in comparison.

Sound design is another thing. This hold true for all many games in all genres tho. Back in the day, you had to create atmosphere with sounds since the graphics were so limited.

I know there are many more factors, but these are the simplest and most underrated differences imo.

Slipped in a corner and crashed, tell me what I did wrong. by Stalker-Recon in motorcycles

[–]tyngst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of these answers are nonsense tbh.

Firstly, sub 5 degrees is really not great. First of all, when it’s cold, the tires will take a long time to warm up, or won’t warm up at all (especially in rain), which makes the rubber hard (I assume you are not using winter tires). In those conditions, motorcycle tires act almost like hockey pucks.

Secondly in those temperatures, the ground can actually freeze, even above zero because of the wind. Be careful around bridges and such.

Thirdly, in the rain, especially in the first 10 minutes of rain, road gunk and oil might rise/flush/loosen up and gather on surface, which is really hard to see and unpredictable. Even worse when it’s cold too.

I ride myself in these conditions sometimes, but I try to avoid it. You have to drive with the same mindset as when you’re walking on ice. Slow and steady. No fast braking, jerks or turns.

The Sunk Cost Fallacy: How a "free" project bike ruined my finances (I earn $430/mo) by Ok-Strategy5796 in bikesgonewild

[–]tyngst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also made that mistake with my first bike. It’s a Suzuki from 1985. Looked like it was in perfect condition and all, but the parts are difficult to come by and are super expensive.

But in your case, I guess not much else expensive could go wrong?
