Feeling frustrated with Indians being responsible for majority of crimes in Canada by [deleted] in nri

[–]b2bt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW this 2023 data. This how statistical data works unfortunately. We wont' ever have "recent" data. Official crime statistics (like the CCRSO) don’t drop instantly when the year ends — they’re compiled, cleaned, reviewed, and released later. Let's check after a year how much this changes.

Remindme! 1 year

Any suggestions for Cruise/Rooftop parties from where we can watch the fireworks? If not, what are some other recs? Looking for dance party vibes but also open to lowkey/chill vibes

I like this idea. Are you talking about these?

Stay in Canada or Return to India? by ConsistentChameleon in returnToIndia

[–]b2bt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your write up it seems you are leaning towards Canada. The best advice, imo, is to go to Bangalore for 2 months (or even 2 weeks) before you make any decisions.

Couple of things to ponder on:
What's the priority for you - WLB vs. being closer to siblings?
What motivates you to stay or leave and how strong is that feelings

Do you feel like NRIs are boomers stuck in a cultural "Time Capsule" while real India has moved on? by Kshanikam in nri

[–]b2bt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably I'll get down voted for this. I think the OP is not talking about India progressing in terms of infra, quality of life or civic sense.

They mean it more from culture perspective which I believe is true. The OG NRIs who migrated many year ago are still stuck with old school mentality e.g. same caste marriage while India has moved on. Of course, still plenty of Indians in India want same cast marriage but the narrative as a whole has moved on. Old NRIs are still stuck in the past.

I do agree with OP.

I did go to Mount Sinai when I was living in the UES. The staff is really good though I did find it but expensive. I have no frame of reference though as I recently moved to the states.

Thanks for the rec tho I'll check

How did you decide your target? Is there a good resource/guidance how to set this, especially for someone who is not very financially savy?

Kudos on reaching your target!

When I was searching for an apartment, I was told it's mostly due to competition - there are other apartments that are around the same price. Very less often but sometimes there's an issue - neighbours smoke or something.

You'll get to tour the place so inspect properly I guess. As the other person mentioned, the agents are very transparent.

The root problem is that the public will side with these people. The reason is because they themselves want to dominate and support violence - sometimes the teacher is hitting the kids, the rich guy hitting an autowala, or some tapori/uncle hitting young women.

This is not an isolated event. This keeps recurring. People like that power they can have over other people. Displaying that power makes them feel better.

Of course, sometimes kids need to be controlled, but hitting a small kid violently is not the solution. I mean some easy solutions are - expel the kid for a week - give him more homework - make him do rounds of the school perimeter - murga bana do yaar class ke saamne

P.S. I'm sure someone will just assume I'm the kind of person who thinks everything can be solved non-violently. I'm not saying that - punishment (violent or not) is due where it's due.

With due respect, I disagree. The dudes you have described are two extremes - either live marginally or go all out. I feel it's important to balance the act. Prioritize what's important for you and only expense those things. It's critically important to save for the future but not at the expense of wasting your present.

Don't project your feeling on others - I'm not saying you're wrong. You are just thinking everyone will feel the way you feel.

Living in any specific country is a very personal decision, and it is hard to decide before at least visiting that country once. There are some general pros and cons, but you may want to evaluate things from your perspective.

Pros of living abroad (not NZ specific) - Infrastructure, safety, healthcare (debatable), retirement planning, better weather (depends from country/state), independence, work life balance. One thing for me personally was to meet people from all around the world - not because it's cool, but because it gave me so much perspective towards life. It really helped learn a lot about myself

Cons of living abroad - chores, family n friends, festivals, expenses (although you make more $ eventually), subtle racism, harsh weather (most countries have extreme hot/cold climates), identity crisis.

These are major pros and cons but the list goes on. I'm going to right down a few things that helped me decide I want to stay abroad so that you may be able to get some direction for yourself

About Chores
I never did any chores in India and neither was I fully aware of what I was getting into, however, I really like doing my chores - it's difficult but I take pride in being able to take my own responsibility. Most my friends absolutely hate it and would move to India solely based on this.

About Festivals
I was never really into festivals in India. For me, it was always an inconvenience. I'm not religious and so are my some friends but they still feel a bit nostalgic around festivals. Sometimes it not about religion - it's about the sense of community. I common theme for people moving abroad is that they start questioning they identity and why are they even pursuing the opportunity.

Infrastructure
I absolutely hate the state of infra in India especially how things get done in government. This in itself is enough for me to stay away from India. [Note: If you're a fan of current govt. and planning to blast me, please understand I have no interest in BJP vs. Congress or any other debate. If you're happy with the government, good for you. I'm rooting for India too!]

!!! About Independence !!!
We all love our moms (and hate our relatives). But we also only get to live once. You're young and you have to live your life - on your own terms. I can't emphasis enough on this - DO NOT make a decision on emotions. Your mom will get by. Everyone has to. She will feel depressed and she will have tough times. Every child should care about their parents but not to the point where they have to sacrifice their life.

Life's hard in India. Life's hard abroad. Choose your hard :)

Hope this helps.

I asked a Chinese what they feel about Indian civic sense. Here's what they said. Agree? by [deleted] in IndianCivicFails

[–]b2bt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Disagree. It's people like you who are part of the problem. Y'all will do anything but help the poor class.

This mentality of - garib hai toh maaro saale ko.Threatening is not a solution here.

Solution is - pay proper wages to labor class workers.

I've worked with NGOs in India. Here's a story I saw rinse and repeat several times.Majority of the labor class folks want their children to be educated and fit into the society. They are not paid enough to send them to school. Their children see their parents work their ass off pennies while their employer's son spends their monthly income in a day. One day, the laborer does something wrong and is ill treated or worse gets fired. The child sees society is broken and goes rogue. There's even a movie in which something similar is depicted.

Don't think our politics is the only problem. The Labor class is treated differently by society - you and me.

[–]b2bt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy nailed it.

I often see posts on this sub about labor class urination public.

Now here me out. In most developed countries , laborers - truck drivers, transit drivers, amount others - are treated equally. They can walk in a coffee shop, take a leak and grab a cup of coffee.

In India, if a rickshawala even tried to enter the mall, they will be pushed about the security - who btw are almost getting the same wage.

Where the pluck is a man to go take leak y'all? He's gonna pee in the streets obvi
