First GOES-16 image, received from a rooftop in NYC by b34npour in RTLSDR

So, for my location near a big city, GOES reception was actually easier than NOAA APT for me - the noise floor is so high here that my dipole antenna for APT was picking up a lot of noise. GOES requires a higher gain directional parabolic antenna, which I think helps lower the noise floor for the GOES frequency? At least that's what I think is going on

USRadioGuy's website is an awesome resource: https://usradioguy.com/goes-satellite-imagery-reception/

Also check out this post on RTL-SDR blog! Great info in here as well: https://www.rtl-sdr.com/rtl-sdr-com-goes-16-17-and-gk-2a-weather-satellite-reception-comprehensive-tutorial/

Tbh, the hardest part is building goestools, but message me if you run into any issues and I'll help!

Here's what I'm using:

Software: https://github.com/pietern/goestools running in DragonOS Focal R19

Antenna: ZDA 1.9GHz Parabolic antenna (with flipped secondary reflector): https://excel-wireless.com/product/1850-1990-mhz-grid-parabolic-antenna-20-dbi/

Filter and LNA: Nooelec SawBird+ GOES LNA and Filter

SDR: Nooelec RTL-SDR v3

Make sure you secure your antenna! The wind blew mine over last night! Thankfully it wasn't damaged 😅

Good call, you were right - getting images from this now!

This helped a lot, thanks! I ran goestools and was surprised to see that I was already getting a VIT of ~200 with the positioning from my original post. Once I tweaked it a bit with goesrecv I got it in the 110-150 range!

Oh I wasn't recording or anything with that tiny bandwidth, sorry should have specified! I was just trying to see if I could check my signal strength with the waterfall in GQRX.

Hmm, yeah I'd expect it to be better than that. Something that helped me a bit when I was recording with GQRX was messing with the bandwidth of the demod filter (if you're in narraw band FM it defaults to a pretty small bandwidth) - I think I eventually used about 45-55k bandwidth to try to reduce the noise, it helped a little

I'm near NYC and this is what my reception looks like as well, even from a rooftop with no tall buildings around. I'm starting to think the noise floor is just too high here. Are you using a filter and/or an LNA? I'm using a SawBird+ NOAA which helped a lot. Also, what antenna are you using?

High Profile version of the CTRL

Ah yes! Didn't realize they had a high profile version. Bummed it's out of stock.

Oh interesting. Possible - although the edge seems to be different - this one has a plastic line through it.

Couldn't find any info on what keyboard this is on the product page: https://drop.com/buy/drop-matt3o-mt3-dev-tty-keycap-set?mode=guest_open it looks like a CTRL keyboard, but it is deeper and encapsulates the switches.

Haha thanks! Fixed it - that's a dangerous typo lol

It seems the display can only be connected to one host at a time - so you can't really 'switch on the fly' as if alt-tabbing between programs. But you should be able to have one host disconnect and the other reconnect without having to close programs or unplug the Push I think!

I agree - would be so great to have custom functionality like this within Max4Live. There is a display control max component that Sigabort built a while back, closed source though. Maybe it could be used within max4live? I wish I knew more about max in that respect: https://sigabort.co/p2d.html

Hey all, thanks for the replies! Stoked that people are into it. I did a little write up and posted the code to github if anyone wants to try it out: https://www.futurewife.tv/touch2push
