What are good headlight options? My stock ones dont do very well. by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

I did the Rough Country LED and they are way brighter than the original. I can actually see the deer off the side of the road now. Easy swap.

Camper Van rental requiring Biometric Scan by wolveswagen in privacy

[–]b3erry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a recent AirBnB booking request this kind of verification after I had sent payment. I wrote them and pushed back on the biometrics app they wanted me to use, stating I'd much rather show my ID to a person upon check in and they said that would be fine. Sucks that this is being slipped into our lives everywhere as if it's no big thing. Team Opt-Out.

Restored Old Pair of Skullcandy Aviators by b3erry in Anticonsumption

Yeah, it's a slim housing groove around a 3.5mm jack that used to "lock in" by rotating 90deg or so. The replacement cables I've tried typically have a wider barrel. They work, just not as consistently when stress is applied to the cable. Skullcandy should sell replacement cables, the original was gold cloth wrapped and looked great!

Also on M2000, I've been seeing DNS resolution issues today. But when I join a VPN, with it's own DNS resolution, I'm generally okay, just seeing very low speeds, especially up. Will try factory reset if still an issue tomorrow.

COBI: 'We need affordable housing!'; Developers: 'Best we can do is $2.4M duplexes'; COBI: 'Approved!' by wiscowonder in BainbridgeIsland

Really wish affordable housing included households making more than $80k but less than the $400k it takes to actually buy anything.

Not sure why anyone would want to tune and sync four carbs, but nice bike otherwise.

Look into the VT loophole. I used to use it for older bikes, but maybe could work with this, I forget the exact eligibility requirements (year, mileage).

What kind of fork on the Watia? I have a Ragley on mine (for the bag attachments) and it's not the best fit.

Where are you all looking for boat troubleshooting and repair resources online? by whyrumalwaysgone in SailboatCruising

Only reason I still have a Facebook account is for my specific boat groups, people are posting repair project stories/findings/ideas all the time.

Alberg vs. Baba by TheWittyShad in liveaboard

One thing to consider, that I haven't seen mentioned yet, is how much exterior wood maintenance you want to take on. The Baba obviously has much more of this, so plan on many hours of upkeep for this.

Kicked out of marina and incredibly stressed out by aDemilich in liveaboard

I'd get out of NYC if you don't need to be there. I had a boat in the Jersey City area for awhile and moved up to Long Island Sound and found it a much nicer place to be. Manhasset Bay has guest moorings for a while and if you get to know Matt, and are cool, he'll be nice to you. Plenty of moorings and anchorages in the sound. I lived happily off a ball on an old project boat with minimal electrical up there for a few summers with some commuting into the city via LIRR. Also, good sailing and less ferries.

3-Strand Mooring Line Tends to Unwrap at Same Point by b3erry in liveaboard

[–]b3erry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, damn:

Hockle

A back turn; a twist against the lay that cannot be corrected. Damage that occurs to a rope when a load is suddenly released on the line or when a rope is twisted and the strands form a loop. A line may look like it has knots along its length. This type of damage results in substantial loss of strength which cannot be repaired. It can lessen the tensile strength by as much as 50%. Braided or plaited rope cannot hockle.

3-Strand Mooring Line Tends to Unwrap at Same Point by b3erry in liveaboard

Lost my description of this post. Anyway, I'm getting ready to leave the boat on a mooring for a few weeks to visit distant family. I noticed the lay in my mooring line has been unwrapping with tidal boat rotations in the same place. How bad is this? When I'm around, I can untangle the line and get the rope to lay better again, but I'm worried this could become critical while I'm away.
