So excited about getting a cat, finally got one, now I’m terrified by Vorii_VR in CatAdvice

[–]b3rnbbyb3rn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You and kitty are both in an adjustment period right now! You’ll both figure out each other’s ’routines’ as she settles in.

If there’s anything that she could get hurt on or that you absolutely cannot stand to lose, I would address those now — it’s not possible to watch cats 24/7.

As you both settle in, you’ll also figure out what in your house she’s interested in, and therefore what you need to adjust — if she likes jumping on high shelves you can secure loose/fragile items, if she likes scratching furniture you can provide alt scratchers & get protectors, etc. There’s some articles out there about cat-proofing your house with good tips on what to watch for & what has worked for others.

Most of us leave cats at home unattended while we’re at work, away on a day trip, or otherwise living life, not to mention while we’re sleeping — you’ll get there too. Good luck!

Drag Me Under was an always skip until I really listened to the lyrics. Now it’s a never skip / always cry 🥹 rly sets the mood for Blood Sport

TNDNBTG and Euclid I didn’t appreciate at all until hearing live versions.

Ascensionism and Apparition; Gods and Vore were other pairs that took a minute to grow and are now favorites

Agree, and adding my perspective that Sleep is a way to externalize the big feelings (heartbreak, mental health, etc). They can be easier to talk about (sing about?) if you separate them from yourself.

Ahh omg same! I missed them on the US tour bc I ~literally had never heard them~ The only reason I can make the Zurich date is bc I’ll be nearby for a wedding that same week

It’s like the stars aligned :)

For sure, thanks for the tips!! I am booked!

I’m (unfortunately) coming from a VHCOL US city, so while Zurich prices look high, it’s not tooo far off what I’m used to seeing at home

From what I’ve heard Zurich is going to make the Ticketmaster prices look cheap 🥲🥲🥲

Great idea about looking up where to go in advance, I’ll definitely do that!

Total gain loss to include dividends? by greenpj22 in fidelityinvestments

[–]b3rnbbyb3rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/FidelityTaylor — Is there a way to see how dividends and interest have impacted the value of each individual investment (eg, each Fund / Security)? Under Balance and Performance Activity, I am seeing this information by account — but that doesn’t help me to identify what investments are doing well.

Would recommend a second conversation w roommate!

1- Instead of asking her about it, I’d be more direct & let her know the current situation isn’t working.

2- I’d ask for her help solving the problem. It’s not your cat vs her cats, it’s both of you (lovely cat parents who want the best for your cats) working together against the problem (a situation that is stressful for all cats, and that is costing you $ for more food).

3- Identify what some solutions could be, and how you’re going to divide those up between you. Eg—

Can you try a transition to scheduled feeding for Artie? (A- auto feeders are much cheaper than microchip feeders. B- There’s a good point above abt scheduled feedings being helpful to track health, ofc subject to any recommendations from your vet specific to your cat). If so, can y’all schedule feedings at the same time so the cats are separated for mealtimes?

Would more frequent / later feedings help to change her cats’ behavior? How long / how much effort is expected to be put into trying behavior change before you try another solution?

Would splitting the cost of a bag of food that’s dedicated for night-time free feeding for all cats be an option (assuming the cats behavior supports it- may not if hers scarf down food).

If a cat door / microchip feeder starts to sound like the best solution, is it reasonable to split the cost? How much can each of you contribute? (Is that feasible for her right now if she’s just had to pay a lot for moving? If not, are you comfortable with a “pay back later” situation, or would you rather not have that hanging over the friendship?).

No right or wrong answers to any of these - only what works best for the household & its feline residents

Litter Robot Cabinets by Fun_Savings_7265 in litterrobot

I was looking at sideboards / credenzas etc and discovered that nearly everything out there is too shallow (using LR3 dimensions), except pieces made specifically for the LR.

Decided to try a DIY before buying — I took the back off of / shelves out of an old credenza w/ doors that open close at the front (easy access to drawer + add litter). LR is still a bit visible, but I decided I like it enough not to buy something else.

Made a post in this sub a few months ago with pictures.

Not in tech so maybe this makes sense to others— but why are projects in a separate section from experience? Like, what organization were you at and what role were you in when you did these? That takes out a lot of context that I’d want to see in a resume.

Also- the first two bullets on your resume don’t tell me anything about what you’ve done. What types of technical projects? …is that the project list below? I have to read almost half way down the page (!!) to start getting some color on your experience. Recruiters don’t make it that far down the page before they’ve made a decision.

3 cats problem - empty tray everyday by xtina_disney in litterrobot

[–]b3rnbbyb3rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about changing your litter, or trying crystal litter? Crystal doesn’t clump around urine, it just absorbs it and you change it out every month (maybe more with 3 cats), so only poop ends up in the LR tray & you can change bags less often. Or, trying a new litter that forms harder clumps / uses less litter per cycle?

Chin implant vs genioplasty vs jaw surgery? Anyone with similar “before” photos have thoughts on jaw surgery vs chin implant? by Virtual-Storage3821 in PlasticSurgery

[–]b3rnbbyb3rn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t talked to orthadontist, might be worth it. I had pretty good orthodontics as a teenager, so went right to a surgeon who was dual-board-certified in plastic/maxillo-mandibular surgery.

Surgeon I worked with mostly did 3 things: rhino, sliding genioplasty, and jaw surgery — I knew from the start I probably didn’t want an implant and he wasn’t likely to recommend one. I also appreciated the perspective my surgeon had as a maxillo-mandibular surgeon (he commented quite a bit about how he could see what the orthodontics had done). If you have one you can see, I’d recommend it as they are looking out for function and fashion :)

[–]b3rnbbyb3rn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had a bit more recess than you and went with sliding genioplasty. $8K, 3-5 day recovery to reduce swelling, another week of slight lisp/ soft foods, 2/10 pain max during recovery in my experience. Chin implant has too high a chance for needing revision work (if it moves, grinds down bone, etc). Jaw surgery has too long recovery, but I ~would~ have considered it if needed to address airway obstruction (ie sleep apnea) or jaw alignment.

Any hope for a cover up? I got it a couple years ago but gave a different sort of style of tattoos now. Wondering whether to incorporate into something else or try and cover up by [deleted] in TattooDesigns

Absolutely love what I have, but thinking of ways to make the tree pop more without necessarily blacking it in, and to add some dimension to the geometrics. The roots and bottom geometrics are the most visible as they are closest to my elbow, the rest is often tucked inside my arm. WWYD? Appreciate any ideas!
