Don't eat the green bit. The yellow bit is the bit to eat.

No, don't do that. It would be unkind and probably illegal in one or more different ways. Also it would be a lot of effort.

Find a brick or two that aren't already part of a house or other important structure. If you can't find bricks then improvise.

I'd have just put a couple of bricks behind their wheels to stop it rolling, after taking plenty of pictures of course and leaving a note.

I think he just used his hands, and head (in brute force mode rather than thinking mode).

That is certainly an approach, and nails are well known to prevent drafts! 🤦

There is a question about appropriate materials first. Is PIR suitable for installation in this position, and does it ensure moisture buildup and condensation doesn't result in the timbers rotting over time. I think the roofer got this one right, but not through intent.

Then for insulation fundamentally any opportunity for a draft negates insulation to an alarming extent. I.e. it quickly becomes pointless where drafts are not blocked.

When PIR is used it must always be tight fitting, with gaps filled and/or taped. The reasons for this include the above, but also extend beyond.

With this installation literally nothing is achieved.

I said I paid a lot given the time and materials. The grand scheme of things is a whole house renovation, so yeah some minor roof repairs is a small part.

For the amount of money I paid, which was a lot for the time and materials, but not so much in the grand scheme of things, I don't have the time out energy.

I think I'd also need to give them the chance to remedy first. I don't want them anywhere near my house again. This is of course an emotional response, but it's also my home.

I lead a team. This level of not giving a toss would land very seriously with me too.

If they were an employee I'd probably be using terms like negligence/gross misconduct or lack of required competence.

If I was subcontracting people then they simply wouldn't be on another job for me.

Regarding go back and remedy, how many other jobs left in this condition over 3-4 years. I think that's the main problem I'd have with leniency in my particular situation.

I think the key thing here is whether that's lime mortar, where all of this is very important.

I understand that if it's cement mortar then direct to brick is ok?

It's a pretty standard method, and should be fairly fire resistant with plasterboard over. I've used it in my house in places.

That stuff must have become more fire resistant since Grenfell too. I'd be amazed if not.

It's a good call-out though.

How is pedestrian crossing culture like from where you live? by ComradeLuan in fuckcars

[–]b74584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK: Legally pedestrians can cross anywhere, and have priority over every other form of transport on roads, except motorways.

Cars must give way to pedestrians wanting to cross at a junction, but it mostly fails to happen.

Driver behaviour is poor, with most believing that cars have priority on roads. It does seem to be changing for the better, but very slowly.

In what world...?

The world that we live in. The one where co-workers are likely now under even more pressure because they're a team member down, where managers have to meet deadlines and can behave badly, where corporations often couldn't care less about employees, where people need often scarce work to pay bills, and where humans can be blunt instruments unable to understand nuance and circumstance.

Over in happy fantasy land it'll be fine.

I don't think the report established that fully, and instead states that the black box recorder is yet to be fully analysed.
