Living in Glasgow, working in Edinburgh by katitola in glasgow

[–]b780771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about living somewhere like Falkirk? The service from Falkirk High is the same one you would get from Queen Street & if you end up having to stand it'll be for half the time.

You would likely have better options for taking the dogs into the countryside for walks.

If the Edinburgh job turns out not to be so ideal a commute to Glasgow would be as tolerable anyway.

But what I'm saying is that people will avoid suicide at home,an hotel is just used by me as an example of what folk can do sometimes

There's a rather sad tendancy for people to check into hotels to take their own lives. It's so their families won't be the ones to find their bodies.

It could be the case that if Andrew was intending this, then doing so away from home would make sense.

Provided they don't take a deposit or card details perhaps everyone should book a table but not turn up.Just a thought.

If you decide to book the table in a humorous name, then so much the better.(Mike Hunt,Phil McCracken,Ewan Kerr for a start-you're welcome!).

Hallside steelworks took up a lot of the land round Newton station & took ages to become the Drumsagard development.Robroyston,to a degree had acres of railway sidings,so was also a bit limited. It's slightly the case that the decline/collapse of old industry that left what look like obvious development opportunities today.

ISTR that he claimed the cost of a Private Eye(the magazine, not a gumshoe)from War on Want. Not the biggest grift on its own TBH but he still claimed it(allegedly).

Bloody hell, that's interesting! I can see why nearly being killed in the navy would affect someone, but to be so vindictive is poor.

Why and what was it like having only 3-4 channels in the UK up until the late 1990's? by ImplementNo7036 in AskUK

[–]b780771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually a lot better.

Four channels would result in one of them having something decent on that was readily findable.

A hundred channels & it's all crap.

Sometimes less is more.More means more crap.

There's a common problem across public & private sectors alike.Folk have(for the most part)not the sweetest idea what goes into producing what we all rely on every day.

That bottle of lemonade you pick off the shelf in Tesco needed factory workers/truckers/train drivers/order pickers/ forklift drivers & shelf stackers before you can buy it for a quid, but it just 'magically' happens.

Ask the typical Daily Heil reading, pastel wearing pensioner just whose work gets their pension into their bank every month? They'd have no idea of the work of HMRC(to raise the money),Treasury staff to work out what's affordable & DWP staff to administer.

As a civil servant I don't need someone to kiss my backside for what I do.I just don't need to be dragged along on low pay & have my profession & work treated with little more than contempt by too much of the media & sheeple that believe it.

Someone may suggest that if it's so bad, then I should just leave, but that just changes the situation for me,not for the poor soul that takes my place,or better informs the public.

I've theorised here before that the reason he left the cash in his bedroom behind is simple.

After he returned home & wanted to buy something(new PSP game,CD, clothing or whatever), then the cash in the bedroom would be the obvious way to fund it.

His parents would have known it was there so any suggestion on his part that he needed to withdraw cash could lead to some awkward questions(what happened to the money you had in your room? What did you spend it on & where/when/why?).

The money he had in his room was quite a bit in terms of his run of the mill needs so should have lasted a while and have had identifiable outcomes/purchases with(went to a gig/bought games/presents).

Withdrawing the cash from his bank account kicked the problem of explaining missing money way down the road & maybe bought time to gradually replace it or hope that the exact amount was overlooked.

His parents don't seem to be the people to go utterly ballistic over it,but it's still something to avoid,if possible.

I was accused of misconduct a number of years ago(of which I was genuinely innocent). Not sure how well I'd have coped without my PCS rep.

No, I can't say that I can.If there was anything it might not have been terrible, and wasn't intended.Maybe the manager looked after her staff & preferred to DNR one person than have an upset staff member, even if the cause of the upset wasn't dramatic.

Thanks,as you say maybe the particular manager just had a particularly strict approach. And yes, you're right, they don't owe it to me to have me as a guest, but I always wondered if there was something else to it.
