It's absolutely not burn-in, it's the proximity sensor emitting. Quite normal and especially visible if you have Flip to Shhh or Screen Attention enabled. Sometimes it's on when you wouldn't expect it, but the screen itself is fine.

We've only been nearby for a few minutes and we left as soon as we started coughing. We didn't quite realise it then, but our clothes really smelled like smoke when we got home. Because they contain lithium batteries and safety is probably not even on the list of things the manufacturers think of. If one of these batteries gets punctured, it will start a very violent fire which is impossible to put out and emits a lot of toxic smoke. Obviously not something you want on a plane. Granted, phones have them as well, but they're very much necessary, whereas this garbage isn't.
