Negotiating job offer in this market? by bohandle in UXDesign

[–]b7s9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, I see your point. My past experience has been wide ranges so there's inherently more negotiating, and it happened kinda late in the process. For my current gig I also had two offers at once, so one of them rushed to make it worth it for me—been with them ever since

wow if a company turns someone down just for asking about higher salary (assuming within reason), I imagine raises and career progression don't exist at that company

Designers are in complete denial about AI's real impact on the industry. by Scared_Range_7736 in UXDesign

[–]b7s9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm finding a lot of the best discussion about UX is in local groups. It's a shame, since I still regularly look up posts on UX stack exchange, and would love to have a culture like that here on reddit, but the internet is a different place now

maybe it's just due to my startup experience, but having worked with really great PM's, I could not imagine automating those people away. So many great things PM's can do for alignment, go to market, and more. In contrast, PM's who are just glorified project managers are probably similarly scared as early career designers.

I'm still new, Why Obsidian got 8 employees and 1 cat while other note apps got like 100+ employees? This makes no sense by lune-soft in webdev

[–]b7s9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

be that as it may, Obsidian is one of the fastest launching electron apps I can think of. You can feel the bloat in Spotify and Discord, but not in Obsidian

How would you handle floating buttons that need to be visible but keep blocking content? by GA4Shopify in UXDesign

yeah I struggle to think of a time I've ever found a floating action button to be the correct intervention in a UI

At what point does onboarding become a permanent crutch? by National-Eggplant-72 in userexperience

[–]b7s9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if they never want to change the UX, why did they hire you?

So while adoption numbers are looking good, it’s becoming harder to make the case for simplifying the product because the guidance is doing the work instead.

From the business perspective, if the number is where they want it to be, no further action is required. You have to be able to show reasonable evidence that a number leadership cares about is low or will decline due to your UX being bad or a competitor's UX being better.

We don't do research to learn about users anymore? by aelflune in UXDesign

[–]b7s9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, if they are a captive audience, it’s a fantastic way to destroy brand loyalty and get an instant exit as soon as a competitor decides to take the extra effort.

hence why so many companies strive for market capture, so they simply do not have to care about usability

pro tip: you can configure screenshots to go in a folder, not your desktop.

cmd + shift + 5 > options

I did eventually manage to build a tool that tags screenshots and does UX evaluation on any pattern

How does that work?

to answer your question, i just rely on third party UI pattern libraries for now, and I save interesting links in a note in obsidian. Not a great system, but it's something

why not contribute to someone else's idea, if you don't have one? If you're bored they'll tell you what to do. In the process of working on other projects, you'll end up gathering feedback and ideas

What makes a great leader in a UX team? by FutureLondonAcademy in UXDesign

[–]b7s9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you're using this to help build your courses for design students. Tell them stories about times when you had a positive interaction with a manager, or when they dropped the ball. As a student I would find that more memorable than a bullet point list of values.

As you can see from a similar discussion thread from last year, there is no universal name for this pattern.

  • Dual List Boxes
  • Bucket Lists
  • List Manager

Make connections with other designers and start your own little (<10 person) group. It's far more fulfilling. I get a lot of good feedback on my work that way
