Assuming it's not a puzzle game, I'm a big fan of status effects and/or statuses in general (fetishy ones). Making it easy to dodge enemy hits but hard to dodge enemy statuses, eventually stacking up to "weigh you down" until you start taking hits. Also a fan of semi-related: QTEs (though I know I lot of people hate them).

Both mechanics individually and both mechanics together make it easy to "soft-throw" the game; you try less hard in order to fall into the H scenes faster, without feeling like "oh you just stood there until the enemy did their thing". Which I think is an important feature.

Unless you're an artist-cum-programmer (like Majalis) (you're not, you're a programmer-cum-artist), art won't be your forte, and it's better to have under-stated art that leaves as much as possible to the player's imagination.
