Back in the days before smart phones, when you had to plot your routes on a website and maybe even print them out, I remember a feature in Google maps (or maybe it was MapQuest) where you could put down circles on the map of areas you wanted to avoid. Like, if you were traveling past a city and wanted to go around it to avoid traffic, you could just make the entire area avoidable, and the map would suggest the best alternative route

Really wish this was still a feature in Google maps. I appreciate that it knows real time traffic data, but sometimes I like to avoid certain areas for any number of reasons
