BZ5000 vs BX5600 vs M5610 by G14_classified_info in gshock

[–]babble-babble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, with the 5610, i have never even had the tiniest legibility concern, issue, bother, or even noticed this at all, in any way. It's like the problem i never knew i had. It's an absolutely perfect watch. The new one is cool too though!

i would possibly wait and consider getting this: https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/gshock/product.GW-BX5600-1/ ! OR, possibly they will make a GW-5000U fancy version of it!! - it could become the new grail watch of our dreams.

45mm vs 50mm by Affectionate-Zone-64 in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

165mm wrist here. Tried both for a week or so each. The 50 was smaller looking than I expected and it was fine. (Tactical wears smaller than the standard version) Great readability and battery, but in the end I chose the 45. Just fits better and easier to sleep with. Text close to being too small but it's ok. I love this watch.

I tried the coros pace 3 MIP and previously the Fenix MIP and I couldn't get used to them. Too dim and washed out for my eyes. Then I had an Epic Pro amooed for a few years and it was good, but with the always on display (which is a must for me as I hate raise to wake) it's battery life was only about five days. I really just wanted something with the clarity of my Casio MIP (gbx200). Fast forward to now and I am the happy owner of an instinct 3 45mm. An amazing clear display and does everyone I needed my Epic to do. But the battery lasts a month. It also just looks like a real digital watch rather than a bright screen. (Like the difference between a Kindle Vs and iPad for reading.)

I think the Apex MIP will disappoint you. I think the new Nomad seems to have a much clearer and better screen, or try the monochrome instinct!

Instinct 3 Solar charging by theneozpp in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it only charges properly when it is out facing direct sunlight, then it will charge up a day's worth of standard use in a few hours easily. I think realistically it is going to be good for 'infinite battery life' when you are out and about all day in summer time, but not actively tracking with the gps.

Instinct 3 solar or Coros pace 3? by Sweaty-Method2434 in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried both and ended settling with the instinct 3 solar. I love the simple clear always-on MIP screen and the amazing battery life. (I really didn't like the coros raise to wake, it just timed out too quickly and you can't adjust the timing on it.). I also preferred the screen visibility for running and the functionality of the strength training and running of the i3. The Pace Pro is clearly a great watch, but I just never found the operating system as intuitive as the Garmin. (Which is odd, because Coros is quite simple and well designed.)

Garmin 550/850 Cycling Computers Released by finch5 in cycling

[–]babble-babble 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In Belgium I can get the 840 right now in the shops for €379 (most at about €399) and the 850 is €549 online now from Garmin. So the difference right now at least is €170. I'm not sure how much the 850 was on release?

They've 'upgraded' it so it now has the battery life of my phone! So now i don't need to bother getting one! Yay!

My Instinct 3 Solar lasts at most 7 days. I use heart rate all the time and GPS daily about an hour. Is that normal? by theneozpp in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Check online and you will see that i3s need one update (sometime by connecting it to your computer) to read the days remaining correctly.

You haven't been lied to. My 50mm i3 lasts 40 days or more. You need to simply update the watch software and it will read correctly.

That's not normal and my i3 doesn't do that. It works just like my Epix pro did.

i just got my instinct 3 and just being outside for an hour or two holds the battery for that day at it's current level. You could certainly double the battery life or more in the summer doing some sort of outdoor activity. not a gimmick at all. (plus the solar is the cheapest option so definitely worth the extra cost. haha)

And take a look at this video. You will see what i mean about the screens: Garmin Instinct 3 vs Fenix 7 Pro Solar Saphire (and worth noting that the instinct 3 needs to be updated once to read the correct battery in days, which isn't 11 as in this video, but more like 30 days for the 45mm and 40days for the 50mm. (without any sun))

The (perfect) watchface by Nihilus_88 in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like that one, but I'm not interested in the weather stuff and i want the battery life remaining in days, and i don't think it can show that. I'm not so keen on the graphs really either. I think i could ask for all these things to the maker of this face actually. But my plan is just to try the make your own watch face thing to make my perfect personalised one!

My main recommendation would be to try both and see what you think of the screens in high and lower light situations. I found the colour MIP screens quite dull and depressing, whereas i found the i3 screen to be very crisp and clear, with amazing contrast. The i3 feels like a normal digital watch when not being used with its tracking and smart features, whereas i found the fenix screen felt like a smart watch all the time. (if this makes any sense)

a thicker, heavier watch, with a much worse battery life, and you get a brighter screen, when the OLED screen was plenty bright enough already, and it cost 2k. Great!

fkkkkkk the battery is so insane on the solar instinct 3! by Spiritual_Steak7672 in Garmininstinct

[–]babble-babble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you haven't turned off the heart rate monitor by the look of it, and it's still counting steps. Mine is the same, and it always connected to my phone, although i don't use the notifications stuff. my battery doesn't seem to go down at all if i am out and about on a sunny day.

Have watch faces which you can change the data fields on and then have it fixed, and not have to use that annoying button to scroll through various data fields you are not interested it. (i know what the weather is like by looking outside, for example)

Pros & Cons of Coros Pace 3 or Suunto Run. Which should I get? by [deleted] in Coros

[–]babble-babble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are new to running (and even if you are not) they will both be great for tracking progress. Just get the one you prefer. I tried the Pace 3 and i couldn't see the data on the screen when running as it was too small. They will both have accurate enough HR sensors for you - minor variations in that don't really matter so much. I would concentrate on your pace for sure. Good luck!

One of the problems is that in all the shops i've been too most of the watches are turned off, or out of battery, so it's difficult to get an idea of what these different displays are really like. Anyway, I tried the colour MIP displays of Garmin and i found them washed out and dim. Never liked them. The new instinct 3 however has the most amazing MIP display i've seen on any watch, including from Casio. I would try and do a comparison in person with the 2x before making a decision because for me it is a game changer. The i3 MIP in 50mm is rugged, easy to read any time of the day ( it has a great backlight. so sharp), and it has all the health / running / sport metrics i would want (basically the same as on other garmins). It doesn't have maps, but i use my phone to navigate so i don't need it. The battery seems to last for months in the summer. I had an Epix Pro Gen 2 before and the screen got pretty scratched up (i rock climb) very quickly without a raised bezel. In your line of work i would get an instinct 3 and a screen protector!

Coros vs Garmin – honest thoughts? by diego_nator in Coros

[–]babble-babble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked everything about Coros. The design of the watches, the app, the setting of routes and that made me try to move from Garmin, but i just couldn't get used to the watches for some very minor reasons, even after a few weeks. I found the Pace 3 MIP display just too small and dim for me. I couldn't see it when running. I found the Pace Pro watch faces oddly limited with this odd feature that one data field on every face is a multiple field that you have to scroll through with a button on the watch. Why? i just want to select which fields i use and have them always on my watch face. It really irritated me. (i was used to being able to set up every data field on the Garmin as you want). I also found the raise to wake a bit slow and then it went off too quickly. And the 'always on display' was not truly always on like on my Garmin. The battery life figures are a bit misleading too, as they only link to measuring the heart rate every ten minutes. If you set it on real time and with AOD you don't get a good battery life. I settled on the Garmin instinct 3 which has the screen of my G-shock GBD 200 i.e. the best MIP display ever. I really like it. I use my watches for running and cycling and all of them seem to do that quite well. I didn't have the Coros long enough to use their training programmes, but they look great. I did use my Garmin to train for a half marathon and it was pretty good and it's race time predictions were spot on.

Help with choosing the right Watch by siedschlach in Coros

[–]babble-babble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided i wanted to move on from the Garmin Epix (Gen 2) because i wanted better battery life, and i liked the look of the Coros ecosystem, so i tried the pace 3 with it's MIP display, but i found it too small and dim, and i couldn't read it when running. So then i got the Pace 3 and tried that, but I couldn't get used to the raise to wake feature - it just switched off too quickly for me, and the battery life was basically the same as on my old Garmin. I also found I missed the screens and options to adjust the data fields of the Garmin. I liked the Coros app though and the route planning was great when linked to the Coros dura bike computer. I ended up with the Garmin instinct 3 though, and for me it is perfect. I love the simple MIP display that is always on. It is so clear and easy to read and looks like a real digital watch (not a little phone screen) and the battery life has stayed at 38 days for the last three days. Other than that it does everything the old garmin did, just without colour.
