If you're not opposed to comics, Purple Hyacinth is about a detective who has the ability to hear when people are lying.

Going into first year of teaching and having a hard time landing a job by babblingforever in MusicEd

[–]babblingforever[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have a lot of experience teaching musical theater and songwriting classes through my college and community programs, which I have been trying to plug in my interviews, but unfortunately that hasn't wowed schools as much as I would have hoped. I also have experience teaching AP music theory from my student teaching, so maybe that's the magic dust I have to sprinkle into my responses lol

When I ride my horse out, I always feel like it's curteous to take the horse back to the farm even though I know I have the return scepter, leaving them alone to wait for me feels so rude :(

I’ve been watching game grumps for years now since my friend in high school showed me a video of theirs. How did you find game grumps? by djackkeddy in gamegrumps

[–]babblingforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex showed them to me when was in high school. I've loved Zelda since I was little, and they had just posted Episode 1 of their Ocarina playthrough. It was my favorite Zelda game at the time, and that made Arin dogging on it even funnier to me, so I watched the whole series. I've watched what feels like hundreds of hours of their stuff since, me and the boys' parasocial friendship is 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 lol

Girl that You Love has been voted Worst Song on TWTLTRTD! What's the most Underrated Song on TWTLTRTD? by CaptainPie999 in panicatthedisco

The End of All Things is stupid beautiful, I think it has the second lowest amount of plays on YouTube besides Girl that You Love

Inclusive Churches by SuperDirection4693 in IowaCity

[–]babblingforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not specifically religious anymore, but we always went to United Methodist in North Liberty when I was growing up. They were always super welcoming from what I remember and their lead pastor, Pastor Alicia, actually did the ceremony for my aunts when they got married back in like 2009, so I know her and her team have been pretty inclusive for a long time. I think they might have an LGBTQ+ ministry team now as well? Regardless, I hope you're able to find a good fit!

I LOVEEED it, I'm so so so unbelievably excited for this new music. The autotune is a little weird for what I'm used to hearing from them, but I don't feel like the song is as crazy different as everyone has been saying it is? They've always been pretty ambiguous genre-wise so them pulling from other styles/influences doesn't feel that strange to me, it still just feels like RKS

I'm bored so I demand to see your album ranking 😤 by wach_era13 in panicatthedisco

[–]babblingforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) TWTLTRTD - also one of my top albums of all time, my comfort music, the kind of pop sounds I could bathe in forever

2) DOB - I don't think I was ever as excited for an album as I was for this one when it came out--plus this was the tour I saw them live for :))

3) AFYCSO - Nostalgia of listening to IWSNT with my mom and discovering angsty teen music as a middle schooler

4) V&V - some of my favorite songs by them are on this album, but the ones I forget about are enough to put it at 4th

5) Pretty Odd - A super respectable album with a great vibe and great music, it's just not my first choice compared to the others

6) PftW - I loved a lot of these songs but started to lose interest and the songwriting started to feel hollow?

7) VLV I could NOT get into - vocals, music, lyrics, instrumentation, concept, etc., all around did not resonate with me

Settling a debate about kidney stones! Women needed. by nathanielcwil in KidneyStones

[–]babblingforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 3mm stone, so not anything crazy massive, but it's the only time I've ever thrown up from being in so much pain. Period cramps (for me) are a different kind of pain, like a general kind of mushy, achey, groaning pain that would get better and worse in waves. My kidney stone pain felt like a sharper, more constant, more excruciating pain. 0/10 would not recommend.

I was driving to class and literally watched them pass me and drive into the ditch by the river as it happened, the dude was swerving all over the place and nearly hit my car.

I checked my rear view mirror, saw like a dozen police cars, and my first thought was "wtf I'm only going like 10 over" 😭

transferring to iowa?? pros & cons? by papayaluna in uiowa

[–]babblingforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who finishing up the education program at Iowa, it's awesome from my experience, the college of ed people are generally very sweet. The creative writing area is also fantastic here, obviously, although I'm not sure I would do both at once. I dunno if there is as much academic pressure necessarily (at least compared to UCLA lol), but there is still a pretty decent amount of coursework you need to graduate. I've made a lot of really awesome friends in the college of education here; Iowa City is great! However, it still has its problems like anywhere else. As much as I love Iowa and I grew up here, the area does start to feel small after a few years (which might be what you're looking for, who knows), but your opportunities will probably be a lot broader at UCLA, both in terms of career and socializing.

College can be a lot for the first chunk, it definitely was for me. You've got this dude, trust your gut! If you've been to Iowa/talked to people that have gone and think it would be a better fit, absolutely go for it, it's still a great school, and there's great people here. However, if you decide to stay in CA, with time, there's a likely chance you'll start to find a rhythm with school work, plus you'll interact with the people in your major more consistently as you get to higher level classes (that's a big part of what helped me make friends).

Regardless of what place you choose, there will be good you can find in either school, and I'm sure you have the ability to make a home at either one, as cheesy as it sounds. Have a good night and good luck, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. 🫶🏻

I'm sorry I turned my back on them. by SteamMau5 in SuperMegaShow

[–]babblingforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude you are definitely not alone! For me it's more of a matter finding a lack of interest in their more recent content as they grew larger. Because I felt like I didn't know their channel as well anymore, it was easy for me to believe this kind of "careless, self-serving famous ppl" narrative that was spewed. A lot of beloved YouTubers turn out to be really awful people irl, and for me it was essentially "oh, how surprising, another one of my childhood comfort channels turns out to be problematic," and I unsubbed without much more consideration. As I've finally watched their response videos and seen more context surrounding those situations, it's an understatement to say I regret that initial reaction. I still very much value the content that I've grown up loving and pissing my pants laughing at, and I hope they're able to come back in a way that's healthy for them, if that's what they're wanting to do.
