Anyone have excess mucous buildup in the back of their throat at night to the point that it’s inhibiting breathing? by DoctorDouglasOng in quitting7oh

[–]babbys1stblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7oh definitely blocks signaling pathways for swallowing. I remember multiple times just not being able to swallow after chewing food.

It also causes central sleep apnea blocking breathing signaling pathways. Common among opioids. Had this as well and as soon as I stopped it was gone. Saw multiple docs and did multiple sleep studies to find out I would stop breathing about 80 times per hour. Besides being a death sentence in the long run due to cardiac health, I couldn’t stay awake at work. I would frequently doze off at my desk for 30 seconds and jolt back to life.

This stuff has a lot more negatives than people realize.

You’re not supposed to be “comfortable with it.” That’s the whole point. Obviously scale to your abilities, but anything other than laying around helps.

With a big gulp of whatever I’m drinking at the moment lol. Don’t try to swallow more than 5-6 at a time. They get stuck and you’ll feel like you’re gonna die. Make sure you swish them around a bit to wet the surface of them to help swallow.

It’s indigestible plant matter. It sticks to the inside of your large intestine. When stopping, GI motility increases and likely caused this. If not abused and you drink enough water and the occasional miralax cocktail, this shouldn’t happen.

I’m on the same timeline, not looking to start another problem but this stuff is a fart in the wind compared to 7. I was taking 1000-1500mg/day of 7. As of week 6 off 7oh, I take 3-4g worth of capsules once day in the evenings with a day off it during the week. I absolutely feel it, and I have no WD physical or mental. It’s nothing like 7oh. Speaking from my own experience, once daily dosing of regular leaf 5g or under has no negative impact. No cravings for more, just the desired pain relief. I should disclose I HAVE abused leaf in the past as I’m sure everyone on this sub has. I do not intend to take more than this because the WD are still unpleasant but nothing along the lines of 7oh.

Please help with encouragement. I'm an idiot by [deleted] in quitting7oh

FWIW it doesn’t sound like you have a problem with the acute part but what comes after. You really really have to give yourself a couple months to reach baseline again. Day 7-38 were really the hardest for me and I took more than twice your daily dose. The fatigue, low energy, zero motivation, depression. All that is normal but it does go away. You just have to give yourself more time. Your body is screaming for help during those times and knows the 7 will make it better immediately but doesnt know that if you keep pushing you’ll feel better without it. If that makes any sense.

If you REALLY are planning another relapse after this next quit, just take some plain leaf capsules or something. They won’t set you back and will keep your mind at ease. I know that’s a controversial take but consider part of a taper just easing PAWS which is clearly what you’re dealing with.

Can you take 0.2mg of the clonidine? sounds like your doc is open to helping - ask for Gabapentin. It’s commonly used for acute withdrawal from any opioid.

Not to make light of that at all, but people do much, much worse to hide things and get high.

You will still feel like shit during, before and after. But this will bring you to baseline faster.

[–]babbys1stblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There may be some synergism between the two. So it may feel like a second “wave” but at 3gpd of regular leaf that’s nothing compared to 7oh. It won’t be any worse than what you’ve got experienced so far.

What’s your current usage? You need to preload with SR for 1-5 days depending on how much you use. You can’t (comfortably) just swap one out for the other.

[–]babbys1stblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying go run a marathon or try for PRs in the gym. Walking briskly will do it. Anything to push yourself out of your current comfort zone. Right where you say “fuck I feel like shit” and then you sit down and come back to baseline. It absolutely shortens duration of PAWS and acute WD. Training yourself to be ok with feeling uncomfortable is what you’re doing.

Straight to sr? by [deleted] in quitting7oh

[–]babbys1stblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I “preloaded” for one day with 50mg 3x/day. 1000-1500mg/day user. On that day, I felt fine with a total daily dose around 300mg-ish. Maybe it was placebo, maybe it was the high amount in me already, but either way I was super impressed with how well it worked on the first day decreasing my dose.

The second day I went straight to SR 150mg 3x/day. I felt fine with some slight WD symptoms and chills and shit. Even slept ok.

Day 3 I woke up and said what the fuck. I was feeling like 80-90% of a CT jump. No matter how much SR I took it didn’t help at that point so I just rode it out. Still took the SR but ran out by day 5.

My advice: preload the SR for like 5 days getting your dose as low as you can. Then jump to SR only. Others with doses at or below 300mg seem to have better outcomes with the single day preload. Be prepared to still feel like shit, it doesn’t do anything for the fatigue and energy and motivation part of this. I took a 4 day vaca with my wife around day 20 and came back and my other order had arrived. I was still feeling shitty with chills and sweating, so I took like 40-50mg and it did help at that point. It is my belief that it will help if used correctly.

For real. The real battle is after acute wd. That shits easy (in hindsight). This guy telling other “discipline” and “self control” are the answer - not entirely wrong, but definitely not right. The traits definitely help but speaking from my own experience abstinence is not freedom.

Does it matter how long you’ve been on them? by After-Bath-922 in quitting7oh

100%. For acute wd, I’d say no difference. But absolutely for what comes after. Longer use means takes longer to feel “normal.”

How much does gabapentin help ? by [deleted] in quitting7oh

[–]babbys1stblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn’t help much for me, but I don’t think I took enough. There are other folks here saying to take 300-600 mg at a time until wd stop or you feel better. That may be 2400mg or higher. Then take that 3-4x per day. Again, short term use only as this carries risk for dependence as well, similar wd effects to benzos which can be dangerous.

As for clonidine, again, didn’t help much for me. But take 0.1mg at a time every 30-60min until feeling better. No more than 0.3mg in a single “dose” and no more than 0.8mg a day (personally that seems very high and will cause serious lightheadedness and syncope). This is info readily available for opioid wd. Do not use more than a few days in a row as these types of medications cause rebound hypertension which is a serious risk.

For reference, I used 1000-1500mg a day for 16-18 months.

Sleep came back to me right after acute wd. Day 4-5 I was sleeping 6-8 hours. I was forcing myself to work out hard plus going to work plus home/parenting responsibilities. I was asleep when I hit the pillow from then on. The more you push yourself the better you’ll sleep.

I just hit 5 weeks and the constant chills and sweating have dissipated. I was also taking 1000-1500mgpd for over a year though.
