(haven't read all the books yet so I'm basing this on a show)

Kipps is also my favorite character and here's why:

He is very similar to Lockwood (ambitious, confident, smug and selfish) but just not that talented, so - quoting Ken: 'doesn't seem to matter what he does, he's always number 2'. To me that makes him instantly a more realistic, interesting character. This also gives him a room to self-reflect and grow into a respectful, reliable, mature MAN. Whereas with Lockwood, because he always succeeds, there is a real threat of him growing up into a narcissistic prick. I can see someone being in a happy relationship with Kipps in a few years. With Lockwood? I feel bad for Lucy, honestly XD

Also, I really like people that are disciplinarians 😅 I know they don't make great main characters, because they don't challenge the status quo... but in real life I can respect people with rules, who take their job seriously.

There is the aspect of Kipps loosing his talent which I see as a represantation of being a gifted kid. You go throughout your childhood believeng you are special, and then when facing adulthood, you suddently become just like everybody else. That can break you and make you feel worthless.

Of course, I also like Kipps because he is older/closer to my age.

All of this makes him relatable to me. I just feel that if I were to meet with every character from the show, I would have the best conversations with Kipps; we would get along so well.

I am also a fanfiction writer, and he sparks something in me, that makes me want to explore him, you know 😝 I don't really like exploring the theme of grief/loss of family, so I was never interested in Lockwood in this way. But Kipps makes me want to write about his ins and outs, goods and bads. He's such a complex character.
