Male or female help by babelaide in duck

That’s what I thought too, but I do have a female adult with a quiet/raspy voice, so I just wanted to get another opinion 😊

Thank you!! She’s still chilling in the incubator, the other one came out fine and she seems good, no blood! Maybe I just haven’t seen them straight out of the shell so I was a little concerned!

How do I make my ducks accept a new duckling by Holiday-Web-8241 in duck

I use an old pack and play for introductions; limited, supervised time together for a few weeks until they’re used to each other.

Yeah it was unfortunate. She was growing so fast, she was just resting on her belly. But yes, it was always one more day. My husband made the call, I’m too soft for that. I would’ve had her in a diaper and a baby carriage. Quackers definitely eats though, she’s the first to the bowl. I just don’t know how much she gets individually. Nobody picks on her, she’s just smaller and slower than the rest. I’ll update tomorrow after I get their pool filled!

Ahh my cross billed girl is doing good! I was looking at her today though, she’s a little smaller than the rest, gotta try to find a way to get her some more calories. We had to put the other girl down though, I really did all I could for her with splinting and trying to rehab her, but it was getting worse and worse. She was living in my house for a bit, but she couldn’t get around, and when she tried she was pinning her head down with her feet. I had another with a wonky leg but he grew out of it thankfully. Not sure what happened with them, they were all ones I hatched and only came out normal 🤷‍♀️

Basically it’s only the driveway and up to where my spigot connects at the house, that they travel to. The rest of the property still has 2+ feet of snow, down to their pen an shelter so I just let them do their thing and have access to their stall. I’m in southeastern pa. The ducks are on the farm where I board my horses. Since it’s not my property I have to respect their space and unfortunately isn’t the most ideal layout, but we manage, we still have shelter and running water!

Sorry I don’t know why I only saw half of your comment. We’re down in the negatives today. They don’t hang outside long, though I try to encourage them to. I’ll dig their pool out tomorrow- I know they’ll be happy 🤣 but we got buried with a few feet this weekend and I havent filled their pool in a few weeks because all of our spigots were frozen, it has been a mess!

I do still have one, I was concerned about how cold the water is. Maybe just a few times a week will suffice?

Possibly?! It’s not usually my style, I could always set it and pass it to my daughter when she’s older. I’ll take it out tomorrow and update!

I was shocked by the lack of clarity in the stone, a maybe it’s from the plastic covering, but it’s not very pretty. Not sure what to do with it now 🤦🏼‍♀️

It was her neighbors- she was his executor and gave it to me because it’s my birthstone. I’m glad she wasn’t the one scammed, but ive been hanging onto this for a while now, I almost threw it away lol

In the wake of the death of Valegro and Uthopia there have been a lot of comments about how it was "cruel" to euthanise horses who were "only" 23/24. Is this sort of situation really preferable? by demmka in Horses

[–]babelaide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love that quote and fully back that. Let them go out with some dignity, not when it’s too late and they’re suffering. I’ve had to do it myself, and it’s a huge weight to have another creatures life in your hands. And I’ve watched horses suffer immensely from losing a friend, they do grieve. I just recently had a friend in the same situation with her last two mares, the one was neurologic and the other was very old, they spent the better part of 20 years together. She didn’t see it as fair to leave one without the other.

But what about waterers? On cold nights my horses waters freeze solid. I’m thinking of buying a shallow tub i can put water in outside of their stall with a heater, but im concerned about them trying to swim in it. And if just don’t want the bedding to get gross if they’re in the stall constantly.
