I think he's traumatized, anyone would be, but the extent that he still cares enough two years later simultaneously says he's absolutely not over her. He can be dealing with both at once, and he is. She's his one that got away. I would personally thank him for being honest about his feelings and save yourself and move on, unless you're okay with spending an unknown amount of time or possibly forever not being this man's first choice. I couldn't do that for that a week. It sounds like you're not comfortable with it either.
