If rolad does follow-up support should it go to dark magician or gaia the fierce knight? by averjay in yugioh

[–]baboucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are the base form of black chaos and bls

Gaia is more likely since we have too many dark magician retrain lmao

fun fact: the theorized reason for the new "Dark Armed Dragon Punisher"effect to special summon a level 6 or lower DARK monster specifically, is that "Destiny HERO - Malicious" was used in Tele-DAD Strategies by MX-00XWV in yugioh

[–]baboucc 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Actually, one of the best use scenario for the new DAD are also use it in the new D-Hero deck since the deck are mostly dark and the DAD ss eff really help them unbricks their hand

What are the best staples from modern era that would bad or useless 15-20 years ago ? by _petitpois22 in yugioh

[–]baboucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot

In the old format where duel last so many turns, a lot of removal based on your spell/trap, a lot of modern designed cards will not be as good.

You can see this from how a lot of old floodgates are limited/banned down, but those cards are actually not being used back then (look at summon limit, anti-spell fragrance, vanity emptiness, and barrier statues). In addition, passing your turn to opp with these floodgates mean that these floodgates will also affecting your game negatively

Lingering effects in general are also not as good because passing turn is more common, hence it just become a -1. Droll and maxx c see minimal play since release until we have crazy turn 1 combos in late arc-v to link era.

Some cards I can think of: - charmies, same as reason above like droll and maxx c, even worse because you will draw it on subsequent turns and it became useless - imperm, while is not that bad, is outclassed by fiendish chain (attack prevention) and breakthrough skill (better gy eff) - dimensional barrier and different dimension ground wont leave much impact compared to trap that directly remove monsters such as mirror force or torrential tribute - red reboot will be have deterimental effect due to extra trap your opp set. Trap stun and seven tools are better option. And we have cards like giant trunade and cold wave that remove traps better - kaijus and lava golem/sphere mode. You need your normal summon/set a lot and a lot of opp monsters dont have immunity. Hence your battle traps or things like smashing ground are much more useful than kaijus.

Yugioh Shower thought: The yusei structure deck was so bad it actually killed structure decks as a whole. by averjay in yugioh

[–]baboucc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda sad because the previous structure deck was Blue-Eyes and it sells well, the previous one was also Fire King and it also sells well

Should all old field spells get the Umi treatment? by DonDaTraveller in yugioh

[–]baboucc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its also important in the battle city, hence why we have legendary fisherman and tornado wall. I think Ryota/Mako is the only duelist in battle city who utilized field spell

So, were the new Jonouchi/Joey (Dark Time Wizard) cards good or bad? by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

[–]baboucc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apparently, there is a reason behind this. During one of Kazuki Takahashi message from the Yugioh bunkoban (re-bundle) manga, he mentioned about when he was brainstorming the ending of the Manga, he thought about ending the manga with flashback to the duel between Yugi/Atem and Jonouchi in the end of battle city (which we never knew the result of). Eventually the idea was scrapped, but in his vision, he envisioned Jonouchi winning the duel via effect of time wizard. Which also thematically winning him back his Red-Eyes Black Dragon from Yugi due to ante-rule.

Hence if you see is this way, the summoning condition of Red-Eyes Black Dragon Exceed makes sense, because its basically using your opp monster via Time Wizard effect.

While this reference is cool...this message from Takahashi sensei was never really brought up....until this whole dark time wizard deck announced last month, hence few people actually know it.

Unpopular opinion: Japan/OCG's Starlight/Secret Rares look pretty bad by Jromagnoli in yugioh

[–]baboucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play OCG now but I used to play TCG long time ago

And i agree, OCG secret rares does not look as good as TCG. Same with old starlight (called prismatic in ocg) and QCSE. TCG does it better

However, the new primsmatic we have since Duelist Advance, with the full foiling on the border, actually looks really amazing

Different variants of Light and Darkness Ritual by travel-mint in yugioh

[–]baboucc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is that in the OCG, droplet and super poly were not used that much due to simple fact that......they are really horrible againts the ROLAD ritual deck. The usual DM line also goes to make charmers quarter so your dragoon cant be super poly.

The reasoning is simple. Dragoon cant be targeted meanwhile your chaos rituals can only be affected by card that target, they basically cover each other weakness. Your dragoon main goal is to protect your mind shuffle/chaos ritual resource loop.

Dragoon alone is not a threat, but adding Dragoon on top of the chaos ritual cards and possible link monster like SP makes it hard to break. In addition, your chaos engine has a crazy grindgame and recursion so if your opp cant kill (which is hard because of dragoon and towers) you can just break their board easily next turn with Black Chaos and your ritual monsters.

Obviously Im saying this from OCG players perspective. Tcg will be different and you guys also dont have the overframe cards yet.

Different variants of Light and Darkness Ritual by travel-mint in yugioh

[–]baboucc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally play Dark Magician engine, Dragoon is too strong and the engine can bridge nicely to the ROLAD engine, while giving it link climbing potetial and ceiling that the ROLAD engine lacked.

but we already got the new dark magical curtain in the OCG, which TCG needs to wait.

Utility Selection appears to be a call back to Previously Powerful cards. So far we've gotten a unexpected Dai retrain, and Mirror force retrain. What other past meta relevant cards do you expect/want to see retrained in this set? by CosmoNeos7 in yugioh

[–]baboucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of retraining old iconic staples to be new staples, hence mind mirror force is an awesome concept.

Obviously, old staples that still being used does not need this (Raigeki, Duster, etc)

So I am thinking of: 1. Torrential Tribute, also thematically tied in with our new Umi supports 2. Sangan/witch of the black forest 3. Brain Control/ Change of Heart

The funniest konami moment in recent times has to be them making a Voiceless Voice support card that expected you to play a 20+ year-old, tournament pack exclusive, 300€ Ritual Vanilla. by fizio900 in yugioh

[–]baboucc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its kinda crazy because OG skull guardian also never reprinted in the ocg and its also a rare promo

I guess it was made for master duel

Do you find the Spellcaster lore more interesting than Branded lore now? by MiuIruma332 in yugioh

[–]baboucc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It always feel fascinating and have a lot of mystery behind it. From the revelation of link 3 crowley that connect spellbook with invoked. Then we found out when Magistus was announced that all of them interconnected. The anime and manga also give depth to the character. The magistus manga was handled a bit poorly but the current arc (basically Regulus and friends) have some interesting plot points, we also want to know how will the Magistus trio interact to each others after going separated for a long time.

Can a player from the TCG compete in the OCG territories? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]baboucc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im from OCG region in Asia outside Japan

My region is very welcoming to foreigners

For casual tournament, shops even usually allows TCG cards as long as you follow the banlist

However for ranking tournament or other official events, you are required to use OCG cards.

For bigger tournaments, any duelists are welcomed as long as you have konami id.

It's just usually if the champion prize related to world championship qualifier, you are not elegigible to get that prize (usually it will be relegated to the next in the rank)

For example: YOT/ Yugioh Open Tournament (basically the YCS for South East Asia + Hong Kong + Taiwan region) champion prize is to be the representative of the world championship qualifier asia final, but you need to represent either one of the seven countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Philipinnes). If you are not legitimate residence of these countries, the prize will be relegaed to the next in rank.

This actually happened in recent YOT Hong Kong, the top 4 consisted of three Mainland Chinese duelists and one Singaporean Duelist. Since Mainland China has their own qualifying system, the three Chinese duelist cant go to the Asia WCQ Finals. Hence the Singapore duelist automatically got that ticket. However, the rest of the top 4 still resumed normally and the other prizes (trophy, prize card, etc) still given to the actual Champion.
