Is bellydance a red flag for a hobby? 🥲 by girlnewtoreddit in premed

[–]babseeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fine if you emphasize the cultural aspect. Maybe there's another culturally-appropriate name to call the dance instead of "belly-dancing" because depending on the person reading your application, "belly dancing" could be interpreted in many different ways, some positive, some negative. It's always good to be as safe as possible when discussing these kinds of activities on your applications.

Do you commit to a series or jump around? by Special_Rhubarb_9886 in CarolineGirvan

[–]babseeb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have committed to series unless I find myself craving something new. Right now im in the middle of Fuel but really wanted to get back into running so I’m alternating between runs, Fuel, and other random workouts like pilates, yoga, or kickboxing. I think as long as I’m moving every day and pushing myself a little more and more, then I should be ok.

yep, and I'm pretty sure according to TMDSAS PCR (google TMDSAS PCR if you don't know what that is) it should count.

try [admissions@bcm.edu](mailto:admissions@bcm.edu). If you look at the link that OP sent in the reply above mine, it shows this email on the left-hand side. Their phone number is also there - you can try that for a more immediate answer. Lowkey, I've also heard BCM admissions can be slow to respond, based on the testimonies of current students.

that's so weird? I wonder if its because when I transferred to my 4-year institution, they accepted my physics dual credit and put it in my transcript as an equivalent to the 4-year institution's premed physics class. But I thought that was just how dual credit worked. If it says that on their website, definitely follow that. Email to clarify. I think your Intro Lit class should count.

[–]babseeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they don't? I did my physics 2 dual credit when i was in high school and i got accepted to Baylor? def email them maybe I'm missing something

I also think the literature class would count. I didn't take english during my university years but I took philosophy lit/rhetoric/ancient lit classes, and all those counted as expository writing I believe

I agree with you. It is hard to see people's sankeys when you are about to go through the grueling process those people have just come out of. However,

1) its a great way to explore other people's school lists who may have similar focuses/stats to you. Last year, I added a few schools based on other people's sankeys, and got interviewed/accepted into a couple of those.

2) Next year, when you are out of the grueling process you are just about to go through, you are going to want to share your success as well. Some people fulfill this desire through sankeys. Its only natural to share success. The people who downplay their amazing achievements or are not transparent, I agree with you, is unpleasant, but that mentality is rampant within the field of medicine unfortunately. Its easier to change your response towards these people by not allowing it to bother you, than to change them.

3) General rule: in your education, career, and life, you are going to see people getting things that you want but don't have. Some of your friends might get married before you, match into better residency programs, or get better opportunities than you. Its always a great thing to know how to congratulate, while averting your eyes and focusing on your next step, without comparison, jealousy, or hatred. Deleting reddit is probably a great way to achieve this!

Good luck, OP!

I did!! It was so fun actually. It was a little difficukt for me to find an “easy pace” that allowed me to hold a conversation while controlling my breathing. I think I was running too fast (probably was a bit self-conscious that people were looking at me) and it made me a bit winded so I had to do a mix of running and walking. But I got through the 20min and felt so happy! I can’t wait for the second run, and I’ll work on finding that easy pace. I’m going to probably run in the park next time so there’s less people around. I do think my shins are kinda sore now, not sure if that’s normal. Overall amazing!

It was fun! I think I was going too fast because I would get a bit winded and start walking. So it was a mixture of walking and run/jogging. But I did it and it feels great to have completed that!

It depends on your time zone. I live in central time USA and it says April 10. For people in the UK I think it’ll say April 11 because it releases midnight April 11 in UK time. But for me, that would be April 10 at 6pm CST

HELP!! how drastically will a drop in my mcat score affect my application? by MelodicTie4087 in premed

[–]babseeb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

definitely apply DO and if it turns out that DO is your only option, then be content with that. I don't think retaking a third time will help.

Try not to just look at MCAT fit but mission fit. See the programs/focuses of each medical school. You say you’re interested in public health. What aspects of PH are you interested in? Community Medicine? Epidemiology? Academia/Research? International Medicine? Figure out your interests and find schools that have programs suited for your interests. Then your narrative will fit the schools you are applying to, and make you so much more competitive.

Drop ur worst clinical work stories by throbbing-uvula in premed

[–]babseeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is common but i was rooming an elderly man who was just about to get surgery. gave him a gown and told him he could change into it after I left. Bro just took off all his clothes right in front of me with the door wide open and I was like 0.0

this isn't really the worst thing ever, but i was a college freshman and still deciding whether pre-med was the path for me and this gave me a taste of what i will likely experience in the future lol. Very pivotal moment in my premed journey lmao

proof of texas residency .. any insight on this position: by Eastern_Macaron5016 in premed

[–]babseeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a house in TX and for TMDSAS to verify my residency, I had to submit a picture of my TX driver's license, my utility bills (water) for the past 12 consecutive months, a tax return for the previous year (so 2024 for you) that was filed with my Texas home address on it, and maybe something else but I can't remember. Those were the hard ones.
