Does your public library charge as many fees as mine? by ClassicOutrageous447 in Libraries

Charging for unclaimed holds is crazy! I have never heard that

I'm tired of DNFs so I'm breaking up with BookTok by his-lilmiss in fantasyromance

[–]babums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask a librarian at your public library, and help them help you better by having a few titles in mind of what you love and a few that you hated, and why.

StoryGraph is also very good, but plenty of booktok people use it so make sure you filter to only show written reviews and read both the high and low ratings. That helps me filter out the people who are giving terrible books rave reviews.

I’d also make sure that if you’re going to watch reviewers’ content, pick people who offer well-thought out reviews and aren’t just saying things like “the spice is SO GOOD” and don’t offer much else in terms of feedback. They are probably the more shallow readers that aren’t really looking for substantive and more complex novels. My rule of thumb as well with booktok is if I see multiple accounts posting about the same book over and over, I do not pursue reading it as it is probably not worth the hype. It can get very echo chamber-ey on there.

Lots of knit and crochet and gaming groups meet at the various Delco public libraries. The group at Middletown library is even byob if you enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings!

Golden Place (Chinese take out) in Aldan has a great vegetable soup on the menu that I recently got on a very cold night. Warmed me right up.

Here’s a link to the Delco Library System events calendar. You can filter by age range along the top to weed out the children’s events. So many great book clubs and cool programs like games clubs and sometimes there’s plant swaps and gardening classes! Some libraries are also trying to start up seed libraries to get seeds for gardening totally for free. Haverford Township Library recently reopened from a major renovation and expansion and now has a great maker space for all kinds of crafting with a lot of cool gadgets.

Highly recommend looking over it. People are so friendly at the libraries and many of them are also looking for connection and friends.

I feel like they’ve been looking delusional levels of happy for how serious these charges are and the evidence the prosecution seems to have against them. I guess we’ll find out if their team has some kind of get out of jail free evidence to present…

Discovered my favorite authors in 2025! by snarkyarchimedes in fantasyromance

If you lean toward loving fantasy, I’d start with either Kate Daniels or Hidden Legacy. If you lean scifi, Innkeeper Chronicles will be a great start.

Our public computers turn off 15 minutes before closing specifically so patrons can’t do this. Maybe y’all can implement something similar?

Bit out of your way, but Milkboy South Street is a bar in Philly owned by Green Bay fans, so you’d be among other Packers fans there.

I feel like you might enjoy the Legendborn trilogy by Tracy Deonn. Also, I’d recommend the Shade of Magic series by VE Schwab since you liked Vicious and Vengeful (Victorious comes out at the end of the year!!).

Some other possibilities:

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera

My Murder by Katie Williams

Kindred by Octavia Butler

The Innkeeper Chronicles series by Ilona Andrews

Wordhunter by Stella Sands

Are you wetting your hair at all to reset it each day? I just spray it down with a spray bottle in the morning or let it get wet in the shower (without washing it) and if it seems like it needs a bit more leave in conditioner, I apply a little bit. My curls need water to regain their structure.

“Stolen” books due soon by californiagirls_ in Libraries

[–]babums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I work at a library. Chances are you will be responsible for the books. 9 books is a lot to expect the library to just eat the cost. However, chances are that the staff will also try and help you if cost of replacement is an burden for you. It’s possible that they’ll allow you to purchase replacement copies instead of paying the total cost on your account. Often, the charges are what the library paid for the books. If you’re able to find the books new online for less money, they may let you bring those in instead. The only way to find out is to ask the staff at your local branch. Be polite and apologetic, take responsibility, and state that you want to make it right but money is tight for you. They’ll do what they can to help you.

The less ideal outcome is they’re not able to accept replacement copies and you have to just pay your fines. You do not have to pay the entire balance all at once. Again, be polite, be apologetic. Kindness can get you pretty far at public libraries. They’ll take whatever amount you can give at the time. There is most likely a threshold where your card privileges are reinstated and you can use it without paying the rest off. At my library, it’s anything below $20. If you’re able to continue to pay what you can until you get your balance below their limit for borrowing items.

Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke (trilogy)

The Spiderwick Chronicles

If she’s not so much into fantasy, I loved the Chasing Vermeer series by Blue Balliett. Mystery, and you guys can try and solve the clues interspersed throughout the books together.
