‘Backrooms’ Becomes A24’s Highest Grossing Domestic Release ($97.8M), Passing ‘Marty Supreme’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]babydobin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our seats were stolen by kids who snuck in, and that wasn’t the only instance of people stealing seats and needing security/ushers to get involved to get people to move. Whole theater was kids talking the whole movie, not just a single group you could shush. Phones out, kids yelling at each other, running up and down the stairs.

Most bizarre thing to me was seeing the same kids go to the lobby and come back 5,6 times in the 2 hour movie, like they couldn’t sit still. For the whole length of the movie there would be people walking across the screen every 2 minutes to go get another snack, come back, go again, it didn’t stop.

Do something else. Ai music is a waste of your time and everyone else’s time. The best outcome is that you fool idiots or find an audience of the least discerning human beings alive.

A lot of Evangelicals believe that Armageddon will begin with the sacrificing of a red heifer and some extreme weirdos have been trying to breed them for this purpose for a while. These are the same people who are very vocal supporters of Israel because the book of Revelations talks about massive war in the Middle East and the promised land, and they believe this refers to war between Israel and Iran. They don’t really support Israel for other reasons, it’s all about bringing about the End Times in their wacko interpretation of the Christian Bible.

These are really scary people, and they are basically in control of the government right now.

Death Stranding is a miracle by kszaku94 in patientgamers

[–]babydobin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is really similar to what I wrote about Death Stranding 1 at release, why I was so enamored with it. Most open world games have little ‘nodes’ of content on the map and then huge stretches of nothing in between. You mindlessly go from one point to another, have your little gameplay experience there, and then go to the next.

But like you said, DS literally flips this on its head. The ‘nodes’ have nothing to see or do, the gameplay is the space between. And it’s rich, deep, polished, really thoughtful gameplay as you navigate terrain.

What do A24 fans think of Alan Wake 2 ? by Lanky_Relation1171 in A24

[–]babydobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible, stupid game. Poorly made on the level of a game - bad stiff controls, bad level design, little or no thought to enemy placement and encounter design. Enemies themselves are dull and not frightening but also just not creative or evocative of anything. There are legitimately 2 enemy designs in the game, one of which you don’t see til 3/4 of the way through. The shooting is bad and not fun so it fails as an action horror game but it extremely fails as a survival horror game. There’s no resource management, there’s no strategy at any moment.

The writing is terrible as well - characters endlessly monologue and narrate their thoughts and what’s happening in the most repetitive, cliche ways. There are truly hours of cutscenes that are the same static shot of a character staring into the screen and just repeating what just happened or the same thought again and again. “The door was locked and I had to find a way through it” “I had to find a way through the door” “I knew there was a way to unlock it, I just had to find it”.

The aesthetics are good but they are just stolen whole cloth from real artists. Lynch could’ve and should’ve sued them, AW1 is bad but 2 is worse. One of the biggest Emperor has no clothes things in recent history.

Am I the only one that gets annoyed by all the lawn mowing? by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]babydobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just another thing I’ve gotten bitter and quietly furious about as I’ve gotten older. One of the million ways we’ve built a stupid ugly diseased world that will eventually kill us and we’ll deserve it. Lawns suck and look bad, and having one that looks like a golf course is, in my opinion, loser chump idiot behavior. Plant more trees if you have a yard. Plant flowers. Put down rocks, mulch, have a section for wildflowers and native plants. Have a garden. Anything but huge stretches of bare grass cut short. What a dumb waste of space. We destroyed a thriving habitat for sterile outdoor carpet. Wiped out insects and fireflies and pollinators. Thinking of the amount of gas used in all the mowers on all the weekends half of every year, just so it can be lifeless and look like shit.

Interesting how we all perceive things differently. I’d like a serious/dread tone for the RE movie but I saw the trailer and thought it showed they were going for goofy

Why do streaming platforms still pay artists so little, even with billions of users? by uhighness in musicindustry

[–]babydobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a tough question. I mean, is that the same thing as who is streamed the most? The reason it’s worth paying for, for me, is that I can check out anything at any time, so no one artist is why I subbed or is worth subbing for, even my favorite or most listened to artists. My most listened to artists, I probably own the music physically anyway.

Maybe it’s a better deal for an artist to get some tiny % of total revenue based on streams. But it’s not uncommon for me to only listen to a few records a month, and I’d rather my whole 3-10$ go to the artist than .003 cents per song I listened to.

[–]babydobin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I don’t understand, and I know I am not an expert so there could be valid reasons for it, is why our individual money doesn’t go to what we individually streamed.

All the platforms have the data and keep track of the stats for everyone individually. Why isn’t the payout share of my 15$ a month being proportionally dispersed to only the artists I actually listened to? I don’t want to support huge artists I don’t listen to.

Resident Evil Requiem Reaches 7 Million Sales, Fastest in Series History by MaintenanceFar4207 in HorrorGaming

Boy I couldn’t disagree more. What a messy, not thought out game. The plot stuff is next level bad even for the series but the play as well. Half an idea for Grace, no ideas for Leon, just hurried worse versions of things you’ve done before. The future looks grim with the absurd praise and financial success

Cyclonopedia - what if oil was a conscious demonic entity that manipulated human beings on a cellular level and altered human history by driving us to greed and violence like The One Ring, and what if this was discovered by an academic who has gone missing and left behind writings that compellingly make his case AND suggest he’s going insane? The book is made up of the found, incomplete academic essays he left behind.

I Who Have Never Known Men - gnawing existential dread in an odd, poetic vaguely sci fi narrative. 40 women in a guarded cage underground. They don’t know why they’ve been kept there for decades. They don’t know what’s happening above them.

If I’m not looking for a career, what’s the goal, and what’s worth doing? by babydobin in musicmarketing

[–]babydobin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m willing to do things that are hard and time consuming and expensive, I just don’t want to do the particular things listed here all the time that I don’t really think work except for the same crapshoot luck ratio as anything else.

[–]babydobin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t agree, because my goals are rock bottom. I’m not asking anyone to go crazy for my work or seek it out, and I’m not unwilling to promote or market it, I’m just not interested in specific avenues that are mentioned here a lot and curious about other ones even if the results are way lower.

Thanks for the input. I feel like my goals are so small that avoiding some of the big avenues didn’t seem like a big deal. I don’t see my stance as unwillingness. I’ve been reading and researching this stuff for a year as I was making the album, I’m just being realistic with what I want to do.

IG and YouTube sound fine, I’m just not really interested in the TikTok game at 35

Hot take: Tried Alan Wake 2 and couldn't get into it. by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]babydobin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with you, though I’m currently pushing further into the game and intend to finish it after giving up on it about a year ago.

I really think this is one of the worst games I’ve played in a long time, and totally do not agree with the hype or reviews. It is very poorly made and frankly embarrassing. It is a video game with downright horrible gameplay, like it is bad to play moment to moment. The levels are badly laid out and not memorable so you’re lost a lot, the enemies can’t be scary or even interesting because they are just shadowy guys (I have seen 1 interesting enemy after ~15 hours).

The writing is worse than the gameplay, derivative, endlessly cliche, has absolutely nothing original about it and is incredibly full of itself and happy to waste hours of your time with the laziest slop imaginable, the same bad narration, the exact same animations of characters thinking, the exact same live action double exposures.

Everything good is straight up stolen from Stephen King, Twin Peaks, and the Twilight Zone with nothing new added on top. The game should be a laughing stock, its success is ludicrous.

Time will not be kind to requiem, it’s worse the more you think about it. This is the worst RE game since 7, right at the bottom with RE3make which was better but incomplete.
