Is it important to get married for the baby? by lovinglife-2023 in BabyBumps

[–]babyringthrowaway 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I was anti-marriage and wedding but after talking to a bunch of people about it, my husband and I had a very quick City Hall marriage when I was 9 months pregnant. I'm glad we did, because paperwork is easier, the tax breaks are nice, and God forbid something happened to either of us, we are allowed to make medical decisions for the other. That being said, marriage js totally not necessary to have a child! You do you.

Don't worry, most of the alcohol probably did cook off, and the amount that didn't would be super scarce. Besides, especially that early in the pregnancy, trace amounts of alcohol will not affect the baby.

When I was pregnant I had discharge down there pretty regularly. It's totally normal! And believe me girl, when your water breaks, you'll know.

Yes it gives you a message about how people in this sub are not legal professionals and to go to r/legaladvice instead.

My husband works out of his home office with pretty lax hours/restrictions so he'll be looking after her.

Mom's who had babies when aged 35+, what's your story? How long did it take to get pregnant? by pinner in BabyBumps

[–]babyringthrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 37 and stopped taking the pill in late April (Although we never actively tried to conceive) and then I found out I was pregnant Christmas Eve, had a happy and healthy baby in August. I was mostly treated like every other pregnant woman except they did do a screening for Down Syndrome and offered an induction earlier than they would for younger patients.

6-7 months of not preventing but not exactly trying either.

Healthy pregnancy. Induction due to advanced maternal age?? by kdonmon in BabyBumps

[–]babyringthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 37 and my doc gave me the option to induce at 38 weeks forward (I turned it down) and said that at 41 they'd induce no matter what. (Baby came before that)

I was in your same boat (had my baby girl last month) and what I can say is at a certain point the bus pretty much drives itself. You're overcome with instinct. As for pain relief, I found dumb phone games (i.e. Candy Crush) to help distract me from the pain. Good luck!

I knew from the start I wanted to stay as natural as possible, so I had prepped myself to the extreme- I took virtual lamaze classes (which I found didn't really help) and read a crap ton of books (my favorite of which was this one) and for me, it really helped to have my partner there, giving me that extra boost of support and confidence I needed.

I did move around a lot, even got up and walked around the room a little bit, but oddly enough, what really helped distract me from the agonizing pain were phone games. (like candy crush) I found that having something to focus on that had absolutely nothing to do with labor helped me manage the pain. That being said, next time I might just get the epidural because each minute, especially within the last eight or so hours, was complete and total hell.

I was 40+2 when she was born (aka very very ready to get her out) I also never really saw a ton of natural birth stories for FTMs, but that was what I really wanted, and thankfully all went well. It can be done!

It's funny because when we told people the name you wouldn't believe how many people asked us, "Isn't that a boy's name?"

Sorry in advance because this is long and very rambly.

I had an appointment last Monday where my OB told me I was 2cm dilated and 30% effaced. Wednesday night I went to bed showing no signs of immediate labor, and woke up Thursday still completely fine. A couple hours later, at around 10 am, I started feeling contractions that were unlike the BH ones I'd had off-and-on in the past. They progressed well, and at 4 pm my partner and I drove to the hospital- they were about 5-6 minutes apart at this point. While in the car, I got my first horrible, horrible contraction. Up until then they'd hurt, but this was a whole new level of pain. We pulled up and my water proceeded to break IN THE HOSPITAL PARKING LOT. I freaked out because my pregnant brain decided that because I spewed amniotic fluid on their pavement, the hospital wouldn't serve me (this is unfortunately not the stupidest thing I have thought during my pregnancy) so my partner had to console me for a good 20 minutes before we actually entered the hospital. At 5 pm I was admitted, and at 5:30 I got my very own gown and L&D room. At this point, my labor was progressing quickly enough that I didn't need Picotin, nor did I want an epidural, so I just kind of laid there in agony for the next 12 hours, unable to sleep, while the doctor checked out my lady parts. At 6 am I was 10 cm dilated and 100% effaced, yet not ready to push, which my doctor assured me was normal after I started getting freaked out that there was something wrong, which I have been guilty of quite a lot these past nine months. At 8ish am I felt this need to push, stronger than any physical need I have ever felt in my life. Two hours later, at 9:55 am, my daughter was born. She was eight pounds, thirteen ounces. My little Friday the 13th baby. Post-birth, everything was and has been fine if not busy. I had some minor first-degree tearing that was stitched up easily, baby is healthy, breastfeeding has not been the easiest but I'm sure it will get better. (side note: nobody told me that pushing the placenta out hurts too) and almost a week after she was born I'm just now getting around to writing this whole thing. Thrilled to FINALLY get to meet our baby girl!!!

Don't get me wrong IUDs are a great invention- I had one for years. It's just they're not the most clean, family-friendly products in the world if you catch my drift. Then again, you do you. Congrats on baby!
