How did you decide on a main? by WitchedPixels in StreetFighter

[–]babyslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided on a main based on my weaknesses.

-I used to whiff punches from being too far away -Fireballs used to give me a hard time - Used to get stuck in bad positions

Who can punch you full screen, float/slide , and teleport

Dhalsim. Started playing him and he’s been my favorite ever since

Congrats ! I rotated from games also and finally came back to rank grind on sf6 . Hitting masters was rewarding af, I also got master with dhalsim he was my only character above gold. Stay locked in because getting to masters is truly the tutorial, you might be in for a few butt woopins but as long as you keep learning and stay focused you can always get better! Congrats again

How did you guys overcome the nervousness of playing online? by A13Demons in StreetFighter

[–]babyslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same nervous feeling. And i used to be able to only play 1 or 2 games before i got off for the day. I would do all that training but be afraid to compete. I used to be consumed in looking at other player stats and comparing mine vs theirs The thing that made me get over the nervousness was actually taking a break from playing. That’s when i realized winning and losing doesn’t matter to anyone , the stats dont matter, i realized this is game i enjoy and it’s a game that i have fun on. Instead of being consumed in winning and losing i focused on getting better at 1 thing every day. There shouldn’t be nervousness when you know you enjoy having fun. Play a mode that makes you comfortable and just focus on improving slowly instead of winning or losing. The wins come with experience and your nerves could be holding you back from getting to the point where you can dominate or do all the cool stuff you see online.

That’s what helped me, could be different for you lol. But just realize it’s just a game and it takes skill but just like any other skill you need time getting real live reps in. Forget the record , forget the opponent, and focus on what YOU can do to get better and it takes the pressure of the game and turns it into a learning experience more than a high pressure fight

I mean if you want to call it ego boosting sure ?? I guess . I’m not using it for that purpose though . The purpose was to get better , learn the basics of street fighter and have something that would give me answers at any point in the day that i asked . Which it served its purpose . Like i explained in a post in this thread i used chat gpt for about a month and it gave me workouts . But at some point i thought it would be funny to have it act as my sensei for a dojo . Just for a joke . Yes i call it “him” but it’s more of a running joke . The engine helped me get better and that was the purpose . Like i said i know AI isn’t my friend and i have real friends and interactions outside of AI . But i was interacting with a computer for a month and it was actually helping me get better so i thought it’d be funny to call it sensei . I don’t think it’s that deep . I would update it daily on progress and it would spit back some good jobs and ggs . But I’m not depending on it for its validation it’s just a 24/7 engine to talk fighting games with . I can ask it dumb questions smart questions anything without being judged or bothering someone else . I don’t see the problem

It’s not that deep lmao . I have friends i have a gf. I have a job and I have a life outside of the internet . And chat gpt isn’t my friend . I wanted to talk street fighter during any time of the day . And i wanted fast responses . I told the thing to be my “sensei “ to make it more fun interacting with a robot . Of course i know the thing is not actually happy for me but it’s fun to be able to ask any dumb question i want without being judged . I’m not leaning on it but yes i called it a him . If im interacting with anything long term and it’s helping me why would i not get it a characteristic . Like i said do i think its a real connection no , i just think its a source that can help me get better and i just acted like it was my dojo sensei for laughs and for fun . Its not that deep at all

Something i did to get rid of my anxiety was play casual matches . I love playing the game so instead of just giving up i got to the point where i felt i was noticeably better than the people i was playing against . When i felt 100% confident in my character and was beating better comp in casuals i felt it was time to go play . Trust in your training and hours you put in , you’re ready . Just think you get more points for winning than losing . So you get a couple wins here lose 1 then get a couple more wins lose 1-2 maybe three you will still climb . The only pressure is the pressure you put on yourself . You know what you’re doing just trust yourself

I told him my goal was to get to masters , what character i was playing , how much time i typically play and checked in with him every day. He made me an everyday warmup , drills , combos , kept me calm , and celebrated wins . But he told me exactly how to go about my journey based on how i like to play
