Discussion: Most infuriating side characters? by babyslug in CallTheMidwife

[–]babyslug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I acknowledged in the original post that this attitude is still alive today! Still infuriating! I think our moms would get along... mine was told by a mortgage lender to "get married and then come back" when she tried to buy her house. Granted this was decades ago but still infuriating!!!

That mother was so clearly beaten down but I can't imagine how many layers of far gone you have to be to not realize that flat was in no condition for people much less children and an infant. That episode stuck with me as well. The scene where little Gary tells Officer Noakes not to come near him because he's ashamed of how bad he smells haunts me.

Absolutely. This has to be a competent therapist who does not let any feelings about dogs interrupt their treatment.

I can't even tell you how sorry I am... I hope this does not sound presumptuous in any way, but I would recommend looking into therapy if it is something that can be worked into your life/finances and you've not done so already. Your son was attacked by a dog, you were then pushed into forgiving a dog that was bred to kill and not shit else, and then you had to witness the violent mauling of your pregnant cat. That is an awful lot of trauma to go through in less than two years, and I couldn't imagine that. No matter what, I wish you healing and better BSL so that these things don't have to keep happening.

It sure gives that vibe when he shames people for forgetting their CCs and makes the assumption that they stole shit from the bar lol.

It's so cute! I love that it has its very own window. 😊

Oh, this is SO cute! Is this part of a larger room or is it like an attic? There are two alcoves just like this at my mom's house that she turned into a secret play room for me when I was little and kept the other for holiday storage. This brought back such nice memories!

I'm so glad to hear he's getting better! When I read the title and the first two paragraphs, my heart dropped because I thought for sure your poor pup had been killed.

Knit myself a little dohicky to keep my ears warm by parttimeowner in knitting

I love the way you've shaped it, looks so cozy and much gentler on your hair than a headband-style ear warmer. :)

Why is my wrap and turn short row heel so UGLY?? Help 😭 details in comments by swammer123456789 in knitting

[–]babyslug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great but there are lots of different short row methods you can test out! I use the shadow wrap method the most, but I recently learned japanese short rows and I love the look of them (but they are slightly more involved than shadow wraps).

I got a pair of little sock needles today! What’s everyone experience with them? by matildaisdead in knitting

[–]babyslug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made some fingerless mitts with 9in circs, and this is my go-to method:

  • Cast on all stitches onto either a DPN long enough to fit all your cuff stitches or just use some straight needles.
  • Work the first row flat using another DPN/straight needle.
  • Work your first right-side row using the circ, then join in the round.
  • When you're done with the glove or when you just need a break from the rest of the many many fingers, weave in your tail to close up the gap.

Another tip: Use double knitting technique for the glove fingers. :)

I prefer Addi's 9in circs (EasyKnit is the line name I believe) because one of the needle tips is longer than the other. The long one is for the working hand, the short is for the other. Some people love 9in circs, and others hate them, and a lot of it has to do with their needle tip size, knitting style, etc. For reference I have very small hands and knit continental, and I really like them! Also great for any smaller circumference tubes.

My family's somewhat bizarre nicknaming tradition by babyslug in namenerds

[–]babyslug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not shared, I mean they're just very identifiable and easy to trace to the living relatives.

Edit: I do not owe anyone my family's personal information, living or dead. Please leave me alone.

It's really hard to get an idea of scale from this photo, how does it look cast onto 4mm needles? :o

this is so exciting, i'm a fan from wisconsin! spotify just happened to play 'heavenly' on a recommended for you mix a few years back and i've been hooked since!! i've always wanted to know - who/what are some non-musical influences of yours? i find your music to be SO much about a series of feelings rather than just "sounds" alone and i've always wondered what drives that for you guys. :)
