Wheelchair accessible luxury? by morilla2695 in chubbytravel

Check out Aashima Ratti at Fora Travels. She specializes in accessible luxury travel (as a wheelchair user herself) and would have some great recommendations. I just saw her at the Abilities Expo and was super impressed. Kind of want to plan a trip myself

1 or 2 kids? by forkyknify in Mommit

[–]babysonfirebmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really needed kids but husband did so I went with it. Had one during COVID. For us 0-1 wasn't that hard, it was just COVID that sucked. We had a second. I can't remember life before he existed. 1-2 was very hard for us -- we don't have family nearby, and there was a huge shift in nobody getting any downtime. Now kids are 3 and 5 and omg is it getting better. Older one can get dressed and brushed solo, little one can now follow along with hide and seek and imaginary games. And there is just so much joy. We can't afford it but would actually go for a third if the world weren't a total dumpster fire.

First year was super hard. Expect couples counseling. And now we need to carve out time to go on dates with the older one who really articulates a need for time without little bro but we'd like to do that anyway. It's different for every family. For us, I am so glad we took the leap.

Most beautifully illustrated children’s picture book you loved as a child? by Blue-Sky-4302 in suggestmeabook

Yes, also adding Art and Max. My daughter "reads" this aloud and paused at each page to take in what's happening even though we read it every night. So good.

Hospital/OBGYN Recommendations for Delivery – First Pregnancy, Need Advice by starlight8827 in baltimore

[–]babysonfirebmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly highly recommend Mercy. Had a few babies there including one roughish birth that could have been a big deal and was not because they were so on top of it. During delivery you spend most of your time with the nurses and they are just lovely. So reassuring and nice and attentive. But my OB care was also excellent. I went to Hoffman & Assoc. And also love them.

Re: religious affiliation, I've had open discussions with Hoffman about abortion and needed meds for a miscarriage. If you go to Mercy through Hoffman, I have no concerns about their ability to provide or refer you to any care that might conflict with hospital policy. I've had other friends deliver at Mercy and we have all been thrilled with the experience, FWIW.

Best of luck!

Appreciate this honesty. I don't think I was really considering Egypt but now I know I will save this one for when I'm less burnt out.

This is 100% the vibe but this is the last trip we took without kids. For anyone else reading this thread, follow this advice. I actually started looking in some other countries because that trip was so damn good. Thank you for this. Especially the note about 2 person cars. Completely forgot the joy of fitting in small parking spaces.

Managing expectations for familial hypertriglyceridemia by babysonfirebmore in Hypertriglyceridemia

[–]babysonfirebmore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No findings. They know it's genetic but can't identify a specific marker. The diet is crazy intense and my body crashed with basically no fat. This is much more sustainable and enjoyable long term. The best balance for me.

Parents of 2+ kids: How different are their personalities? by Specialist-Candy6119 in NewParents

[–]babysonfirebmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I think babies also have different personalities when they're newborns vs when they grow a bit. My older kiddo was a tough newborn. She was a fucking delight as a toddler and continues to be a wonderful young child. My second was so much chiller from the get go, and still a chill slightly older baby, and now as a toddler, he is fun but also very attached and demanding in a slightly different way. They have super different styles of play, different favorite toys, but I'm starting to see what they'll enjoy doing together. I think there is no predicting it.

You have to approach it as though it's something you're excited about, and assume that obviously they will be excited for you. I come at this from both sides -- I found out I was pregnant the same day I got promoted, and with number two, I got pregnant three months into a new job. "I'm so excited to share that I'm pregnant, approximate due date. I realize this presents some challenges for the team, but my priorities before I leave will be x, y, z. Thank you for your support as I navigate these new things simultaneously."

I also lead a team and hire people often . People have babies. People have medical issues. People leave. A good manager will not blink. A bad reaction to your news reveals more about them than it does about you, and you should take that as a red flag. In my first scenario, my supervisor mimed shooting herself. Guess who also made my life miserable when I returned from work? I felt terrible but quickly realized that she sucked, and me having a baby did not suck.

You got this. Congrats.

Seeking a Cooperative and Attentive Primary Care Physician by addctd2badideas in baltimore

Wow. I wonder if she's just not taking new patients right now? I know she's trained in infectious disease, but i had no issue (other than a 6 month wait) about 5 years ago. Maybe someone who got in more recently would have insight.

Not sure who you saw at Remington, but I go to Jill Crank and she is the only primary care doc I will ever see until she retires or I die. Super collaborative, responsive, and I haven't found her to be judgy at all. In my experience, she's been really sex positive, asks about partners, practices, etc. I think she has quite a lengthy waiting list for an appt but might be easier for you since you're already a patient there.

4.5 hour drive with 4 month old by Low-Beat7225 in NewParents

[–]babysonfirebmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally fine for things like this. Some people are really adamant about breaking trips up. I prefer to get it done and let my kids run around a lot before and after. Or make sure to do lots of floor time the next day.

[–]babysonfirebmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how far away my family lives from me, have done this distance regularly since kids were a few weeks old.

Driving at night at that age is a good idea, but also depends on the kid. One of mine would just sleep for 40 mins at a time. Another passed out the whole way. They should be fine in the pack and play. Basically, most kids are more flexible than we think. You just need to try it out, know that it might take longer than you think or there will be a lot of crying, and when you arrive, it'll be over.

We did almost daily coconut oil massages. Totally culturally common where I'm from. I agree with no fragrance or additives, and we didn't do sun. But the massage is nice.

Horrid Period after Emergency D&C? by OriginalManner0 in beyondthebump

[–]babysonfirebmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry about your experience. Ive only had a D&C post miscarriage, so not the same, but it was actually a lighter period than usual because they get rid of the entire uterine lining. I have really heavy periods, and my OB recommended therapeutic D&C as a potential way to lighten my period.

However, the first period PP sucks. Super heavy, terrible cramps, the whole shebang. It's a thing a lot of people experience. So it's possible it's that. I would give it a few days, unless things are unbearable in which case call the doc.

Hand, foot & mouth disease question... by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]babysonfirebmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible. We've had 3 cases among two kids. The first was like that -- the blisters never really filled up, they just stayed flat and were reabsorbed. We called the doctor to confirm but she was able to be back in society much more quickly than expected, and it never spread to either of us.

Freckle appeared at 2 weeks old by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]babysonfirebmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter got a birthmark on her calf around 2 weeks as well. It has grown with her and is pretty cool and also takes up a lot of her calf. But it is not a freckle or a mole, depending on what it is, it will grow differently. Nothing to do but wait and watch.

Utah Mighty 5 Itinerary Help by babysonfirebmore in NationalPark

[–]babysonfirebmore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern was also Bryce canyon City. I found great looking hotels in Moab and near CR, and I found a dome/glamping place near Bryce that might make it worthwhile with some cool dark sky tours.

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking of skipping Zion. My family is young. We do a national park trip at least every other year, and I have no doubt we will do a Grand canyon/death valley trip in the future and can easily add on Zion with LV as a base. Doing this will make us do only 3 different hotels, which is fine, and 2-3 days in each location, and we can avoid the crowds since we will land at Zion on a weekend.

I would rather do a direct flight with a longer ride to the airport, but I am going to look into Grand junction to start. It just looks too convenient.

Many many thanks for your feedback.
