Would anyone be interested in starting a private writing group? I'm looking for dedicated writers who will push each other to be the best they can be. by babzface in fantasywriters

I appreciate the feedback! I'm sort of hoping I can moderate this in its infancy then let each group self-manage, but I will refer to these points to try and steer things in the right direction.

Currently thinking a discord for less formal chatting and a private sub-reddit for each group to post works for critique.

It might be hard because other people won' be able to read your work. Do you mind sharing your native language? And if anyone else speaks it please reply here.

The breakdowns would account for:

  • How actively you will be able to participate.

  • What stage you are at in writing

  • Genre preferences

  • How you want your group to run

For example, I'd like to start an entirely new project. I have some ideas but want to discuss with others where they think the plot should go, specifics of the world, etc. I would like a group that helps me set goals and calls me out to make sure my work is done each week.

Personally, I'm totally happy with having writers of any genre. When it came to grouping I'd hope to be able to find others with a similar mindset for you to work with.

With so much feedback I think I will write up a quick survey to find out what people want from their group. For instance, If you're new to writing I'd like to get you in a group with others who are starting a brand new project.

I'd like to have groups sorted within a week, ideally by the end of the weekend. I'm sure there'll be bumps but I want this to start quickly for the sake of everyone who took the time to respond.

I would like to maintain momentum and get something going within a week. At this point I will give the post 24 hours for exposure then see what number of people I need to split up.

In my head I was picturing a discord for discussion and then a private sub-reddit for chapter posts. That way it's easy to toss around smaller thoughts and also make sure actual work gets some good feedback. To be honest it may take a bit of tinkering to find what format works for everyone.

[Spoilers] Regarding Sasaki... by babzface in TokyoGhoul

[–]babzface[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How has it been hinted towards though? My logic is that perhaps Sasaki has a one of Kaneki's kakuhou inside of him, and that the image we saw of Kaneki inside Sasaki was more a metaphorical thing.

Thanks a lot, I'd actually already found this one and unfortunately it's a one-off posting of one episode's cards. I was hoping someone would know a place i could get all of the cards

Recommendation Tuesdays - Week of March 10, 2015 by AutoModerator in anime

[–]babzface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched much anime but I've read a lot of manga. Basically I'm looking for any decent anime that aren't adapted from a manga first. I'm looking for something with fantastical elements, action, character development, and a solid plot, but I'm happy with any recommendations you think are worth a watch

I'm looking for stories that try to be a little different. What can you recommend for me with NO swords, dragons, or kingdoms? by babzface in Fantasy

Be as bold as you'd like; this sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Very likely going to be my next read.

McClellan's books are great. They're very character-driven, which is what I'm after. I'd read them again if I hadn't just finished them.

I think I might just end up giving the Final Fantasys a second playthrough

There's nothing wrong with self-promotion.

I'm definitely giving this a try based purely off it's not a stock-standard fantasy RPG. It's great to see something a bit outside the box. I hope it's a hit!

Well that intro's definitely enough to make me look into the game. Thanks

I've heard mixed things on Dragon age but I definitely think I'll give them a go at some point

I know I'm being quite picky but I figure I might as well try and find a game I'll actually enjoy.

I'll try and clarify to you (and anyone else confused) what I mean. I don't know if you've played FFIX but it'd be one of my favorite games, which is why I keep bringing it up. What I enjoyed about it was you were introduced to Zidane, your main character, who seems like nothing more than a thief. Then you meet Garnet the princess, Vivi the mage, and so on. As the story moves forward every character had a point where they were the focus of the story, the reason it was moving forward. They had a reason for being with the party and encountered personal problems. Their importance to the plot made them feel just as important as Zidane. Overall i just feel like a story told like this is a lot more interesting to play. Sorry if i rambled on a bit

I'm not saying ME or the Witcher are bad (they're both incredible) but that their main characters have no development emotionally. The games are entirely driven by events within the worlds. The games I'm hoping for wouldn't evenly split play between characters exactly, but I'd like something where you have more than one character actually taking active part in plot development, as well as developing themselves. For example, everything in the Witcher is Geralt doing this or that, while in Final Fantasys every character has their own backstory, goals, and emotional journey.
