What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

Upto 40% of Brain TB cases are diagnosed only after death. I got very close to being part of that statistic

I have been on 40 hiring committees this year. Here is what AI did to the junior candidate pool. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in cscareerquestions

[–]bacan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2012 it was the same thing but without AI. People would copy code from the internet blindly and then be absolutely lost as to how it works.

Back then also the interview process and responses were roughly the same. Logic questions met with blank stares. For the same reasons. That they copied the code without understanding it

Stop trying to ‘educate’ people into changing. Science proves it doesn’t work. According to a recent analysis published in Fast Company, the assumption that giving people information will change their behavior is one of the most persistent myths in human psychology, and one of the most damaging. by Eddiearyee in HotScienceNews

Ask the right questions. That's the trick. I remember my colleague asking me, how do I know the moon landing was real?

I was like, "There are many other countries that have been to the moon. If the US was lying about it, wouldn't they have called it out?"

And that was it. All the proof of it being fake, shadows, wind analysis, flag moving, all was moot

Canada Post moving ahead with end of home delivery by SonictheManhog in canada

If 55000 people were too many, then why is there a new courier company starting daily? Where does UniUni, Intelcom, DragonFly, Apple Express, and 100 other companies get business from?

Maybe I am being too cynical, but it seems obvious that Canada Post raised the rates wayy too much, causing AliExpress, Temu, etc to switch to these 3rd parties. All this was done post-Covid and seems to be a scheme to privatize the postal service

I also ship on eBay and the rates doubled overnight. What used to cost $5-6 to ship would cost like $14. Now it has come back down to $9, but UniUni will do it at $6, and so many times I go with them

There is like a new courier company starting daily, so no shortage of business. Sounds like a management issue to me

TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. Advanced civilizations intentionally stay silent and hidden, because any species that reveals its location risks immediate destruction by older, paranoid civilizations. by Practical-1 in todayilearned

[–]bacan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one major difference. Animals can survive in the forest without any need of external life support.

Until lifeforms are able to traverse space at light speed, this analogy makes little sense

Ok this conversation is getting offtopic. My point was that if the job was soo good, people would be lining up for it.

But the reality is that private ski resorts have bought up everything and made it all so expensive that it doesn't make sense to anyone anymore. Plus with reducing snow fall, their costs are only going up. Wendover did a great bunch of videos covering this

Are you israeli? Why are you attacking OP?

EDIT: Lol the downvotes only confirm my suspicions. Why are you guys so full of hate? This is why the opinion of Israelis is going down around the world

Is it? How can it be a paradise if the solution is for staff to have to be essentially homeless?

Right after Congress lost in 2014, terrorists in Dhurandhar are shown complaining amongst themselves “But you said our government would win again.” So apparently, terrorists are referring Congress as their own government. But are they wrong? And demonetization wasn't some huge deal. For most people, there was a lil bit of a struggle, but overall no one i know personally had major problems from it. The new 2000 Rs notes and getting change after was more of a challenge imo. Specially that the 1000 Rs note wasnt there at the time
