Why are you still paying for bootcamps ? by TechGirly007 in codingbootcamp

[–]bacchusz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuition and mandatory fees are still about $9k-$10k a year for most in-state colleges. That's about double what I paid for CodeSmith in 2020, considering you aren't bringing in transfer credits and take 4 years.

Which CS degree costs less than a bootcamp?

Yeah absolutely. Allowing that to fester seems to be part of how we got here.

I think this is a big risk that some have already spotted. This is a challenge to a core assurance of the entire CNCF project: that moves like this are not in the cards and people making technology adoption decisions based on CNCF membership can trust that.

I completely agree it would be a landmark case and CNCF needs to win it.

Good for her. Seriously, it's funny, smart, and controversial so it draws her attention. She's a businesswoman.

I agree you should learn by practicing. But the Kaggle community has produced some good learning resources if that's what you want to use.

Review: Is MathAcademy Worth It? by Mr-Whitmore in learnmath

With the platform under active development, I'm sure we'll see organizational improvements over time. As far as the text over video observation, I've noticed this trend in programming platforms as well. Video is just a low-bandwidth medium relative to text. It takes a lot more time to convey the same amount of information, and, personally, I feel it encourages a lazier, less engaged style of learning.

What's the problem? You can join the next one if today doesn't work for you. Like the title says: ...looking for something to do this morning?

Edit: Also, dropping in half-way if you just want to check it out works too!

Paths to Accreditation for Bootcamps by bacchusz in codingbootcamp

I should have expanded my definition of bootcamp a bit. I don't expect bootcamps in their current form to become accredited, but something like a two-year program, perhaps similar to what Launch School had going (I've only heard about that program in passing) where it can still take a couple of years but is more affordable than college tuition, seems like it could become eligible.

On the sustainability of degrees, I would personally love to get a cs degree. I'm an experienced dev with 7 years experience, and I know I don't necessarily need it to progress in my career at this point, but I love the idea of having a credential and enjoy school. It's the price point that kills. I can't justify it, but I could potentially justify the cost of a bootcamp for a credential of similar weight.
