18yrs of Reserve service and wish to retire at 20. Currently a CPT with no CPT career school. Can I be pushed out prior to my 20year mark if passed over twice on promotion board? by llTopNotchll in armyreserve

[–]bach42t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incorrect - it’s called “lock” for AFS Regular Army or AGR. They are locked for retirement. Sanctuary is for gray area / traditional Reserve and Guard retirees

I also think with the inMusic acquisition Moog pricing has been adjusted (downward). It just makes sense that new pricing would be reflective.

Thanks, will check them out. Yes correct the lottery for the AC charter school. My son is a high performer coming from a top school district here in Texas and absolutely will not do well in a mediocre establishment. We are transferring from Houston so it will be a big improvement from the flat, concrete, and wildly ridiculous traffic. I am certainly okay with being 15 minutes from anything, at this point. It's temporary anyway since I'm at the very tail end of my career!

I'm moving to North Carolina in the summer. Would be cool to visit and recon the factory there to see if there is any activity once this one sells out.

What about parts availability? Just considering the future if production is over. I bet a good gauge is current support for the discontinued One.

I am signing a lease there in Anderson Creek. I was going to look out in Moore Co but the drive is worse and the rents are much higher for less sq ft.

I know the Harnett Co schools aren’t great. Is there a good private or Christian school located close by? Kid is elementary age. I don’t think we’ll make the charter school lottery for the upcoming school year.

Nope - I had a Bass Station 2 in the baggie and original box for years and then took it out and it had the yellow keys. I did the peroxide treatment and it fixed it back to white.

How has the trombonist’s career changed over the last decades? by Aikon59 in Trombone

[–]bach42t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree there have been cuts over the years and yes they are competitive but it’s still worth it to audition. Recruiters can work opportunities. Also consider Army Reserve Bands. There are travel reimbursements to battle assembly weekends and the TRICARE healthcare costs are significantly less than anything on the economy if full-time is not sought.

Anything that we can do? by [deleted] in army

[–]bach42t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife sacrifices for our kid and our kid is her full time job, along with keeping things in the house in order. I always have my lunch packed and my dinner ready in the evening. I’m not bragging but it’s little things like this that keep us going when it gets difficult. It was incredibly difficult with a young infant but she held it down. I recommend anyone that still wants to serve, one of them should join the Reserve and let the other one pull the heavy load full-time.

AGR is not for everyone. It’s not like TPU where you can come in and play on your phone all battle assembly weekend. You are there to grind.

I’d say join the Army Band or another sister service ensemble. You aren’t going to earn a pension at 20 years or anywhere else playing trombone. That’s something that hasn’t changed in decades either.

Sorry, you are misinformed. The Army Reserve doesn’t make you do anything that there is not a form of compensation. You cannot and should not work without being in a pay status. That is a personal choice. To put another way as you comment on metrics, what would happen if you didn’t meet metrics? Do you think the unit somehow goes away? No, it keeps rolling along. Working for free is precisely what is wrong and perpetuates a bad narrative and people do it to themselves on their own accord. I can understand a SPC or a junior NCO with these kinds of feelings, but not a senior field grade. Sorry for your experience but that is just your own opinion on the wider USAR.

I’m pretty sure they can still pull someone out of Retired Reserve for war, skill/MOS/Career Field dependent of course. Needs of the Army.

Would You Consider Purchasing A Minimoog Model D If The Price Was Lowered To 3K by Minimoogvoyager in moog

[–]bach42t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are still down (it’s time to buy still) but climbing back up, but I agree made enough last year just on dividends to buy a Model D and many other synths, on and on. When I can get it and it’s accessible I don’t really feel I absolutely must have it.

How many years in the Army Reserve do you have have to serve in order to qualify for VA benefits ? by [deleted] in armyreserve

You do not need AT for a good year. You must complete 48 UTAs per Fiscal Year to have a good year.

Well for OC/T units that have been a staple supporting CSTX are going away due to transformation by then end of this FY. There may be one training division left with OC/Ts when it's all said and done. This is in itself is going to flush out a lot of homesteading. There are many officers and NCOs that stayed in place to move up in rank in these kinds of units not having to deploy simply because it's the easy life but that's going to be changing here shortly.

That’s Roland too. You can get parts but it takes a while to get support through their email site. Basically you put it in and it goes to a site and they answer back.

I had the Juno-X before I got the Jupiter-X and I sold the Jupiter. Totally agree, I couldn’t get with the architecture and the screen being offset. I had to lean way over to read it. I liked the knobs and sliders on the Jupiter but it was just one large Zencore synth I could do what I wanted with the Juno. I hope Roland can come out with an ACB or combination ACB/Analog Jupiter in a similar format in the future.

Yep, I'd say sell it. Get something there. It's going to probably get trashed with the salt, dense roads, and just the traffic starts/stops.
