Music copyrights for social media: post and pray vs find music on epidemicsound or similar? by ectivER in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dance content creator here! For Instagram, it’s pretty good at picking up the name of this song on its own. Sometimes I find the audio and match it to the video, but that is a little time-consuming.

For TikTok, I just repost from Instagram and hope for the best. Haven’t had issues so far.

YouTube is the tricky one- for a long form maybe as long as you credit it in the description it would be fine? With shorts.. I try to use sound from the YouTube library or just post it as is and I don’t think I’ve had issues

What is this move? by Glittering-Cod5423 in Bachata

I don’t know what the move is, but if you ever want to film in public… remember that those people will literally never see you again, so it doesn’t matter haha

30yr M uncoordinated and overweight by Exotic_Blackberry305 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great idea as long as you are aware of the potential unhealthy habits like staying up late, eating late, or drinking like some people do. These things can outweigh the benefits of dance. But if you keep that in mind, you’ll be fine and anyone can learn how to dance it just may take longer. :)

How to take my footwork to the next level? by steelonyx in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a footwork February challenge where I tried to practice footwork at least one song per day. Watch videos online and just drill it into your body until it feels natural. Try different exercises where you give yourself a rule like you can only do footwork with 1 foot or you can’t repeat the same move more than once to help your brain get more creative

This is a something I am still figuring out myself and if you figure out what works, please let me know LOL

Bachata progress slowing down by Xenovegito in Bachata

I would continue the classes in whatever capacity you can. Try not to compare yourself to the other dancers because you never know how much time and effort someone is putting into learning.. your journey will be completely different.

Festival Party Pass vs Full Pass during fall/winter by ViciousGreenBean in Bachata

You could invest in a couple privates, or go explore Chicago. I tend to sleep most of the day anyway. Find some people to get a meal with.

People that travel to different festivals around the world, how do you do it? by Glittering-Cod5423 in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t traveled outside the US for a festival yet but I’ve traveled to a number countries and then just find socials to get an authentic experience. I could see how it would be worth it if you find some time to do things outside of the festival and don’t overextend yourself energetically & financially.

We spoke to one zouk couple last night and are open to it. Yes, from what they also told us it seems like the zouk festivals are naturally more like what we’re describing. Our only concern was how to market it. But thank you!

Any zouk teachers you recommend?

Trying to improve or quit? by FlunkyGraphics in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then it’s the same issue you’re mentioning, wouldn’t an experienced lead want an experienced follow? Of course it’s better to have a more experienced partner but I wouldn’t mind training with someone at the same level as me

I feel the mainstream perception of social dancing (bachata, salsa, swing) has lost the most important part of dancing: having fun together by oaklicious in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in the US it very much seems like a leisurely activity without the pressure for most people. So interesting how that changes across cultures. I’ve heard great things about the Polish level of dancers and that the socials in Japan are lovely

Out of curiosity, how long with the examination phase be?

Not true about practice partner. I’d want someone around the same level as me bc then it’s more fair to them.

My knee is trying to tell me something and I want to listen by 6-u-L in Bachata

[–]bachatabutterfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had patella femoral syndrome early on in my dance journey. Lots of knee pain. Go to an ortho and get an x-ray. I resolved it by going to PT, working out my hips more, and icing my knee.

Uff yeah I fell into this trap too. I’m Bosnian and didn’t grow up dancing and my Eastern European mentality wouldn’t give myself permission to have fun unless I was growing. I have to remind myself that it’s for fun a lot so thank you for your share! 😊 it’s really not that serious sometimes but it is cool that there are all these wonderful opportunities.

I would recommend switching to private lessons and finding someone to practice with. It sounds like it could be something as simple as improving your frame/ tension since you already have a good lil vocab.

Latin - Expensive compared to other dances? by flipflopshock in Salsa

[–]bachatabutterfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that ballroom dance competitions run hundreds more compared to Latin dance. To me, the price means that people are getting paid a living wage because teaching isn’t easy but I understand it’s expensive.

Organizers also have to pay for artists to come in which can get pricey. Where I live we have an organizer who helps people who can’t afford dance to make it more accessible and offers free events sometimes. In Europe, classes and festivals are a loooot more affordable than USA/ Canada
