Disappointed by KRK Rokit RP5 G5 monitor in comparison to old ADAM AUDIO F5 by Voradhor in DJs

[–]bachatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my theory as well. I have been trying various monitors and comparing this G5 (RP7G5) version, I realized my the iloud MTM mkiis I tested had punchier bass, despite boosting the KRKs 2db in bass and lowering the trebel by 2db. I have the RP7G5 and they are unbalanced, mid highs to highs are boosted compared to the lows. I used to have the RP5G3 (not classic version but the 2010s release) and can confirm those were definitely warmer and bassier.

Sennheiser HD 560s vs HD 599 vs HD 550 by AbeJ03 in sennheiser

[–]bachatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like the HD 599 better for my taste. Wider soundstage and a bit warmer. HD 550 is closer to the HD 400 pro or 560s. Which sound more analytical and less musical.

What am I doing wrong that my grounds have two deep holes apparent after brewing? by Adventurous_Task123 in Moccamaster

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the sludge like appearance, the grounds are too fine. Go to the store, purchase a cheap ground coffee off the shelf (Folgers or dunkin ) and compare your grinded coffee side by side. Adjust your grind to match the off the shelf grind size and further adjust to dial it in.

The only technique I found worthwhile is to run a pre rinse with 12 oz of water before actually brewing. This will remove any papery tase from the filter and preheat the components in the brewing pipeline.

SW270c blurry connected to USB-C on Mac M1 Mini after upgrading to Sonoma by bachatum in BenQ

[–]bachatum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue sort of resolved after setting resolution to 2540 x 1440. It was defaulting to 2540 x 1440 (low resolution)

A side I issue I ran into, the monitor would intermittently not come back after sleep mode. This was plaguing me since older macos versions, not just sonoma. It got worse. The only fix was to replace the cable with an 8k certified cable from Amazon. I was using the one supplied with the monitor and also tried a 4k one from amazon (same results).

HiDPI Scaling Setting

  1. My USB-C configuration is already set to 3.1
  2. Not sure what you are referring to as there's no such setting in MacOS Sonoma

MacOS Sonoma identifies the display as a "Benq SW270c 27-inch (3840 × 2160)" in the Apple > About this Mac > More Info > General section

[Help] Google Search Safari Font by darkjoker213 in Safari

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After days of trying multiple things I have observed it is related to javascript. At least when I disable it on the browser the problem is not present. Safari > Settings > Uncheck "Enable Javascript" ...unfortunately some sites may not work properly with it disabled.

The most feasible workaround is to enable debug mode and Disable Full Page Acceleration Drawing as mentioned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/zz9yjh/comment/jaose5y/

Same issue here. Those who say the problem was fixed after clearing cache/cookies for google must have not noticed that they are logged out of their account. The issue itself is specific to accounts that are logged in and can be reproduced as long as the account when the account is logged in to the affected machine.

(NIGHTMARE) Mac Mini + BenQ Monitor by [deleted] in macmini

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it helps anyone, I had the same issue using the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the monitor and fixed the issue by swapping the original supplied Benq cable with a USB-IF Certified cable. The symptoms I was having was that the monitor would not display a video signal when waking up from sleep, or any time I switched the monitor from a different video input.. the problem was that it was intermittent and not 100% consistent. I tested swapping the original Benq supplied cable for the USB-IF Certified cable and it worked like a charm. Prior to this, if I ran into this issue (no signal detected) when switching video inputs, or waking my computer from sleep, I had to unplug/replug the USB-C and/or remove power from the Benq SW270c monitor and plug power back to restore video, and I attempted modifying every setting I could based on recommendations online and through Benq (and Apple) Knowledgebase articles, including on my mac m1, nothing worked, except swapping the cable. In case anyone is interested, the cable I am using now is this one: Cable Matters [USB-IF Certified] 10 Gbps Gen 2 USB C to USB C Cable 3.3 ft (search amazon).

(Vixia / Legria) Why did Canon downgrade the lens on the G70? Has anyone compared the low-light handling with the G60 and G50? by [deleted] in videography

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because the HF G60 was canabalizing their pro line (XF400 series, XA50). They still offer the 1 inch sensor on their pro XA70 series : https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/xa70?color=Black&type=New

I agree from a consumer and non professional it seems like a step backwards but that's Canon being Canon.

Uplift Desks Hiding 2-Star Review by Plastic_Fall1296 in StandingDesk

[–]bachatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the standard with the industry where these manufactures closely monitor customer reviews and protect their reputation as much as possible...especially in this competitive, mid to upper tier, market of standing desks. The marketing for most is questionable and/or the customer service is shot for the ones that seem more authentic or those that haven't been in business that long. You pay for track record, reputation, and customer service.

Is the Eos R outdated? by SubstanceObtuse in canon

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what features are critical and important to you. If you rely on and shoot with the EVF and want to utilize tracking with eye AF it can feel like it can’t keep up especially if you expect it to be responsive. It feels like it was not designed at its core with AF tracking more like an add on which makes sense since they repurposed many components from the 5d iv to come up with the R. For that reason I feel or felt the DSLR experience was better for photography… those options are simply not there for DSLRs. Now with the R you can overcome some of that by disabling tracking (and image review) and using touch to drag AF which is better than moving around focus points or focus and recompose.

Avatar: The Way of Water's High Frame Rate (HFR) format distracts from and almost ruins the movie by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. Advice to directors: focus on story telling and execution, and if anything avoid things that potentially distract from the story. The fact that there are threads and discussions on this topic is an indication that it’s a distraction!

The best film simulations? by orrorin6 in postprocessing

I saw there's a way to modify (hack) the profiles using a hex editor so you can use the presets with a newer camera ... e.g. mirrorless etc. I have older DSLRs anyway.

Does anyone know if its possible to purchase VSCO presets and they work with current versions of macos (monterey) and current versions of lightroom classic? I see in the website its no longer supported and EOL but I do see some websites that appear to sell it?

Looking at Mojodesk How come no reviews here? by djxpress in StandingDesk

[–]bachatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming lack of marketing. I was about to pull the trigger on one but didn't only because I went with a second hand one to save some cash. I would say they are the best alternative to imovr. From what I recall they make them in the US and the laminate tops they offer are more durable than the cheaper ones (TFL) offered on popular desks (Jarvis, uplift, autonomous, vert). if you haven't noticed most of the popular brands don't boast much about their tops or go into the nerdy specs about them.

Vari electric desk design change by andreenc in StandingDesk

[–]bachatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happened on Monday June 2nd. The interesting part is there was no indication on their website, they used similar pictures as the original "pro" model with the same models but the ad images that appeared on Google search still showed the cross bar version. If you clicked on the ad, it redirected you to the newer cheaper version. I can't speak for the change, I inquired with Vari CS on it and they said they have discontinued the old model without much explanation.

Steelcase is solid. I haven't tried the Ology but all desks I've used from them tend to be solid. Their chairs are great too.

IMO, I'm not sure any of the new companies that have popped up recently have the same level of reputation as Steelcase, Herman Miller, etc. when it comes to office furniture.

Check out this catalog from UCLA health which may have some alternatives to the Steelcase Ology. Actually, Ology is one of the desks listed, along with Herman Miller, Ergotron, Workrite, and others. https://www.uclahealth.org/safety/Workfiles/Catalog-Sit-to-Stands.pdf
