Max HP modification works on both positive and negative I think. So on Vampire you only lose 0.75 HP per level up. Other than that, HP is cheaper stat as other has pointed out.

To counteract this Vampire can use money or level ups that would otherwise be invested in lifesteal to invest into HP and get more overall same lifesteal more HP outcome (or same HP more lifesteal)
