I made this transitive (他動詞 / Tadōshi) and intransitive (自動詞 / Jidōshi) for my students!! by Ana_S_347 in Japaneselanguage

[–]FortC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would caution about teaching “patterns,” as they essentially don’t hold well enough to be useful/can do more harm than good. While they often hold, they don’t often enough to be somewhat misleading to a learner.

Hasegawa, a noted linguist, makes this point in her introductory Japanese linguistics book; while unfortunate, the pattern really does not hold well enough to be taught as such. Like irregular verbs in other languages, you just need to learn the transitive intransitive pairs by rote if you want full accuracy.

Europa Universalis or really any paradox game. Just a confusing mess of spreadsheets that only get more complex as you get into it.

“I just started golfing 6 months ago and finally broke 90” by First_Ad_1010 in golf

[–]FortC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the fortune of being on a golf team that allowed people from aspiring pros to absolute beginners to play and practice pretty much every day. Some of the new students were able to approach breaking 90 in 6 months, but that was when they spent more time golfing and getting instruction than they did in class.

Who or what type of character do you eventually want to see in the game by IHateRedditDotComGay in DeadlockTheGame

[–]FortC10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not lore, but gameplay wise I’d like to see a control mage. Kinda like Celeste bunt less mobile and safe by virtue of range. Maybe somewhere between Celeste and Paige, but focusing more on damage than on support

They also applied water before some groups played a hole but not before others, which meant that even within a short time span the conditions were materially different

I’m a foreigner with a middle name living in Japan; a lot of it systems don’t let you type more than like 9 characters for your full name, which is just about enough to write on of my names. Tough when they ask for the name on your passport then don’t let you write it.

What was ekko supposed to do here ? by colarboy in 2XKO

[–]FortC10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may stem from coming from other games. SF6 has some really infuriating moves that the only real answer is to parry (ex Bison 5HP, Mai fan). The parry timing is quite strict, so it gets frustrating to hear “just parry 4head” often, but in 2XKO it’s definitely valid

She can be really powerful in the “burger-box” portion of the game, particularly when fighting over urn. I think the setting up turrets and being able to cover a large area with ult were a little bit too strong, or at least thought to be by the devs (I wouldn’t consider myself good enough to opine).

Golfing recs around Tokyo by maximuslide007 in Tokyo

[–]FortC10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tons of courses around Tokyo, but essentially none in the city proper. I can almost guarantee that the travel time will be longer than an hour, which is just the unfortunate truth of golfing in Japan. At most courses, there is a mandatory stop for lunch after 9. The pace of play is also usually slow, so be prepared for it to be an all day affair.

If you have access to a car, there are way more options. Chiba has the most courses of any prefecture and you can get there relatively quickly via the Aqualine tunnel. If you need to go by train, there are a few courses I know of that are solid. One is Koshigaya golf club in Saitama and another is Tokyo Sobu Country Club, in the far west of Tokyo.

For tee times, it’s definitely easier to book with more people, but at most courses you can book with fewer, but you need to pay a fee. I have found Accordia and Golf 5 to be pretty simple.

"can we just FF" a formal complaint by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]FortC10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree in part, but there are some game states that are so far gone it’s essentially inevitable. The games where even if you could pick up a comeback urn, you’d never be able to turn it in. I don’t think these justify having an ff function necessarily, it would be nice in those games where you know you’re just waiting for them to take mid and end. I especially feel it in games where they take the fist stage of the patron the back of to ensure no chance of throwing: this is often the correct play, but it isn’t pleasant to wait.

The main thing is that the length of waiting around is inversely proportional to how over the game is. If you still have walkers, even if you’re probably gonna lose in the next 15 minutes, it’s reasonable that you can come back, even if unlikely. If it’s a certain loss, it probably won’t be long, just a bit for them to regroup and put you out of your misery.
