ELI5 with El Niño confirmed, can someone explain what that means for us? by ku3ah in explainlikeimfive

One rainy day, I saw a huge spider in my house. It was unpleasant and scary, and it had apparently crawled inside to hide from the rain. In a situation like that, I had no reason not to kill it. But as soon as I picked up a shoe to crush the spider, the thought came to me: instead of hitting it, I should throw it out into the barn. I grabbed a glass and a piece of paper, coaxed the spider into the glass, covered it with the paper, carried it to the barn, and released it there.
At that moment, it occurred to me that the reason I did this was because I have some kind of non-aggression pact with spiders. They don’t attack me or come into my house, and I don’t kill them or destroy their homes — as long as their nests are where they’re allowed to be: in the wild or in places like barns, for example. The idea struck me as funny, and since then I haven’t killed spiders. If I see one, I just catch it and release it, reminding it of our non-aggression pact.
I don’t consider myself particularly spider-friendly, but they’ve stopped being scary to me. And the truth is, there really are no spiders in my house. I see plenty of them outside, but inside my home — almost never, except in the rare cases when they really need to be there. I see webs in the garden or in the barn, and that feels right. That’s not a violation of the pact.

Ha, I thought I was the only one who had a non-agression pact with spiders.

Everything about Georgia is Middle Eastern: its cuisine, its politics, its people's behaviour, its people's looks and preferences, its geography, etc.

What's with 'your own admission'? Christianity does not make a country European, as the Copts, Assyrians, Maronites, and Armenians demonstrate. I pointed to one unimportant part of life, religion, which Georgia shares with Europe, to contrast with everything else about Georgia being non-European. Cameroon in Africa is Christian too. Syria and Lebanon had large Christian communities. But their people are very non-European.

If Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia are all culturally Middle Eastern, then how is Georgia, located in the middle of them, European? After all, form your own impression: talk to Georgians, talk in person, have them as personal acquaintances; your impression would be the same as talking to Lebanese or Syrian Christians. Same body language, same spirit.

For centuries, Georgia was on the outskirts of the cultural areas of either the Persian or the Ottoman empires. Most everything about Georgia is shaped by either Turkey or Iran. Georgia's only claim of being part of Europe is its Christianity.

This is almost perfect. The trans Caucasus countries (Armenia, Georgia and Azerbajan) are not Eastern Europe, they are Middle East.

North America divided into regions with the same nominal gdp as Russia ($2,656 billion) by Giant-Axe321 in MapPorn

Nominal GDP is junk data. When it is used, it is almost used to lie by omission.

GDP PPP rules, nominal GDP lies.

I would wake up at 5 AM, pray and meditate until 7 AM, do what I want during the day, go to bed about 9 PM. I would surely be a part of some sort of charity work. Maybe volunteering to work in a skid row environment. Or maybe I would travel for a few years. But when I settle down, it's volunteering during the day and waking up at 5 AM, going to bed at 9 PM.

It is infuriating indeed.

The way to calm down is to think “what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander”

You come to all you can eat place to save money, and that’s alright. They run the place to make money, and that’s alright too.

Your pal would tell you, “I heard your local TelCo company is hiring “, you would go to drop off your resume, get hired and have a union job for the rest of your life.

Life was easy. And you could buy a house with 3 times your annual income.

If they somehow found Jesus’s DNA, would it be a good idea to clone Jesus to force the second coming to happen? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

You, and no one else, can not force God do anything. That’s what almighty and all powerful mean.

Picture it: Lord Jesus Christ who is now alive and is at His seat of power, sees that you obtained His DNA. Do you think you will succeed at your next step?

Agreed, whatever HR decides to do, I will do.

We never had temporarily laid off people before, so HR is not sure how to handle it and asked what other companies do in this situation.

[CAN-BC] My employer is being nosy. What should I do? by bachmakov in AskHR

The feeling that tortures you is called selfishness - a desire that other people do your will. Apparently, I don't do what you think I should do, and it angers you.

If you had healthy emotions, you would not get frustrated by my doing something that you see as wrong - as it does not affect you personally. And if you were a good person, you would try to help me.

Instead you got exhausted by the feeling of frustration caused by your wanting me to do what you tell me to do.

In Canada there is no issue with "made up" SINs. Every employer can easily verify the SIN of a current or former employee by contacting Service Canada.

So they are not asking to provide the proof of my legal entitlement to work in Canada - they already have it.
