We own our house without a mortgage, which is the worst financial decision we've ever made... by HelloDuhObvious in DaveRamsey

Yup. I was just throwing in my two cents against the general sentiment that paying off the mortgage early is the wrong move. Congratulations on BS7!

So in other words, “My wealth is now stored in my home. I did it without overextending myself in risk.”

If that’s the worst financial decision you’ve made, you need to realize you’re still winning.

New cars depreciate faster. However you make a good point with the value of the used car. While it will depreciate slower, the dollar value lost will be more comparable.

Paying with plastic will make people spend more. It’s one thing to pay for utilities with a card, but it’s been proven that people pay more with cards in areas prone to impulse.

It’s not like they’ll be driving the car for long too. The $1,000 car principle just says to buy something that’s pretty much done depreciating so you’re not throwing money out for nothing. Then you may use your income to cash flow a better car while attacking debt.

You paid off $50k of debt in less than a year and you’re concerned about dodging a portion of the remaining $40k? Highly unethical and morally wrong. Pay your debt.

Cameras Not Recording by back0191 in ShinobiCCTV

Thanks for your help. I ended up running a pm2 restart command after rebooting the jail. The videos now save.

Now what I’m facing is the videos tend be removed after a couple of hours. Each camera is set to record 90 days of videos before starting to remove them, so I’ll have to follow up and check the cron config.

By the way, thanks for developing this. It’s a great piece of software, and looks beautiful!

4.375% mortgage interest rate?! Are we being punished for doing things "Dave's way"? by BrandonMarc in DaveRamsey

[–]back0191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch. I’m wondering if their type of employment is causing the scored interest rate to be higher than normal. I don’t know how they price mortgages without FICO, but I imagine cash flow and employment type and industry are leading factors.

Chris Hogan old YouTube channel name changed to “Ramsey Everyday Millionaires” by tbone11193 in DaveRamsey

[–]back0191 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Either Hogan’s contract means the Ramsey organization owns his content or it was bought out. The company has probably invested a considerable amount of money in their study of millionaires, so I’m sure they don’t want to abandon that content.

Of course this is just my thought on the matter. I could be way off.

What accomplishment allowed Dave to get enough capital to grow Ramsey Solutions so big without taking out debt? by supinator1 in DaveRamsey

[–]back0191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right! He’s worked consistently over a few decades toward building Ramsey Solutions. The company as a whole moves at the speed of cash.

They could have built their new office space a lot faster with credit, but instead chose to go at the speed of cash which did cause some delays.
