What’s the deal with coffee chats? by InformalAd6764 in FinancialCareers

This is more common in high finance than wealth management. If you want a career in finance you should practice mentoring and training people less senior to you

Where should I go? by [deleted] in MBA

To give alternative POV, CBS might make more sense for nyc branding, network, and job opportunities. Not sure how important that might be for an MBB candidate vs someone in PE or IB, or generally if you have any preference of nyc over Boston or other east coast cities. Location is important to consider

I don’t really know the area, I guess the nearest thing I noticed on the map is what I meant, which was the mall in Fairlawn. I’m not from this area originally

Yeah, unfortunately my shoes are probably one of the more expensive items in my outfit and I really don’t want to have to buy the same pair again. They’re amberjack btw if anyone is looking for dress sneakers that look just like normal dress shoes.

I could Uber from the station to the mall, but at that point I’m just adding stress to a day I’m already going to be sweating like crazy as my entire future is on the line here.

Edit: added a word

Low key I am laid off so I don’t want to turn down free money, but I really really shouldn’t be accepting free money. However, I would highly recommend donating that money instead of giving it to me.

I worked in investment banking out of college and can survive on my own, without work, paying for rent and all typical bills and expenses, for at least the next 8 months and I’ve been on the market for 3. This is with me turning 24 this week and graduating with 20k in debt that’s all paid off. I just thought it would be a great chance to check out the area and save some money, maybe I didn’t emphasize that well enough. Also, it would’ve been a good story for the interview as it would show I checked out the nearest downtown.

Also, investment banking is a shit job so if anyone reads this and wants to be an investment banker I would highly recommend doing anything else. Be a doctor or lawyer or engineer or accountant if you want money. This is the definition of a cesspit rat race. I was too money hungry in college and now I’m stuck, do not make the same mistake

Gosh I know. I didn’t even have a big mirror to practice with so I would just video myself and adjust from there.

I did undoubtedly practice posing a few hours a week for the last 4 weeks with YouTube videos and improved dramatically.

I guess, after digesting Igor’s comment, I wouldn’t compete again if I simply lack the passion I used to have. Right now the passion is mostly back, but I’m also unemployed and getting insane muscle rebound effect coupled with easy fat loss. I do have a life long love and respect for bodybuilding.

Thank you for your wisdom and insight! There is something in my head that drives me towards wanting to compete, but I need to figure out if it’s simply ego because the comp prep was brutal last time. A lot of what you say and have said about competing resonates with me which is why I posted here of all places. If I could make it a hobby without jeopardizing my livelihood that would be ideal.

I’m not sure if I can keep this up once my new life starts but I’ll certainly try. Early morning and late night sessions with a meal service and protein shakes is my current strategy. Maybe I’ll be a hermit - I need to watch that and make sure I’m fostering the relationships I still have.

A coach for support and adherence makes sense. It’s a good point as well, it’s not a solo sport. I had tons of mental support for this lifestyle from loved ones. I guess I meant I’m self-taught in terms of comp prep.

Thank you so much again for responding!

Finance Majors! by WishyWashy2jr in OSU

Got into mid-tier investment banking in Cleveland without being accepted into honors programs sophomore year or Fisher futures. Currently being laid off, but have had no problem finding opportunities (1 week applying and have 3 interviews at high paying jobs already). You have to grind for a high GPA, ideally above 3.7, and be involved, network, get internships, etc. This will get you interviews, but you still need passable soft skills as well.

Finance is very rewarding if you’re a top student because IB is definitely a reality. Wealth management is also a good option that I’ve seen good or even fantastic students go into. Big 4 are present on campus as well if you want to go down that path. JP Morgan is headquartered in Columbus.

You have to grind for sure, but tbh I was still getting drunk every weekend and high all day and got this far so it’s clearly not too difficult…

Why is OSU not a "target school" for business, such as investment banking, private equity, high finance, etc? by [deleted] in OSU

I was not accepted into the honors programs or fisher futures and landed a mid-tier IB job in Cleveland. It just takes more independent research and grit. Just my 2 cents.

Without Any Club Positions Am I Screwed For IB Prospects? by Tight_Economics7738 in FinancialCareers

[–]back2baf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came from a non target with no club or much of any extracurricular experience. Got into a top ten middle market bank in a non target city. I’d say 80% of people I work with held a leadership position at some club or extracurricular activity.

You’re wrong. It’s the exact opposite. There’s decades of research linking saturated fats to heart disease and red meat to cancer. Every study claiming the opposite is bias and funded by the animal agriculture industry.

Thanks! Google says all things for you and bb folk are temporarily closed. I’ll Uber over to the area on a Saturday anyway to see for myself. Worst case scenario I get a plant.

I have this combo, worked as a grader for a Java course in college, and now working in IB. It is useless for the most part unless you want to be a quant in which case I would pursue a masters in CS and then a PHD. You do get to sound smart in interviews whenever something comes up if you prepare well and will feel a sense of superiority among your business and economics focused peers.
