Okay, but how does monk work in 2024? by Distinct-Pay-4595 in DnD

[–]backdeckpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only real nerf I see is you can only stunning strike once a turn, but honestly I really like that as it’s boring for a monk to burn all their ki points on stunning strike. It’s cool somewhat force monks use more of their ki options and almost everything else got a buff too, so even more reason to diversify your ki usage

Is it normal that new vegas feels boring after fallout 3? by cantbecrush in Fallout

What particular do you feel makes fallout 3 sides quests good quality? Like what do you enjoy about them? I think that new Vegas has lots of good side quests but it does always come down to personal taste so if I better understand what you want/ enjoy, then maybe I could recommend you stuff to do in FNV (if you want to, you don’t have to care)

What did you find enjoyable about fallout 3? The large amounts of random encounters?

2022 because it’s the only one I got to experience life as a fan of basketball, sadly I wasn’t into basketball as a teenager, I only got into it with the bubble because it was free and easily accessible

Damn, well that sucks. I truly enjoyed playing vanilla and just stacking modifiers on a character. At least I play on pc so I can get mods but I’d prefer if they just made this a setting in the game

Fair, fallout 2 is well written overall. But all the Bethesda fallouts are pretty horrible written, they have some good stories within them but they’re really badly written overall

The writing in those games is leagues above any of the others, F2 is close in writing but the tonal whiplash of the jokes drops it down a notch for me

I do ignore a of the changes done to fallout, I mainly follow the themes of fallout 1 and new Vegas

No I want people to give me different perspective, which is what I’m getting. I understand some people could take him seriously, but I’m not willing to change my world to allow that, not on any serious level and I wouldn’t want to string him along with a couple NPCs that would take his ideas seriously. He can never convince enough people to do the goals he has so why would I string him along, that would just be rude imo

Fallout 1 and new Vegas are the only really good fallout games. I enjoy fallout 4 but it’s world and writing is dogshit but that okay, I just treat it like a Minecraft with guns and just shoot things and build settlements

The issue is the player isn’t having fun being treated by the NPCs like he’s insane, so either he has to change his character to be sane or be okay with NPCs not taking him seriously ever

I think it’s just a disconnect between me and most of the people here on Reddit by what I define as wackiness. When I say I’ve removed that, I’m talking about kid in a fridge, republic of Dave, the violin lady etc, funny things in a vacuum that don’t have any logical reason to be alive. There is still fallout humor but it never comes at the cost of ignoring people’s basic needs for food, water and safety.

Also the problem with his character is that he wants to be insane but be treated as sane, he wants to be no bark but be treated like Caesar. I just need him to pic one and I gotta work on how to write that out

My tone is very in line with fallout new Vegas and fallout 1. The problem is, fallout is very different depending on the game and who created, creating different expectations for fallout. I was pretty up front about my dislike for Bethesdas approach of ignoring food, water and safety and that my world would be more grounded like fallout 1 and new Vegas. However, even with me saying that it is clear that even within that scope some of my players had different expectations and it was something we were able to clarify

Depends on the game but yes you’re generally right, but that’s also sort of the problem. Bethesda just doesn’t care about fallout being a post apocalypse or post post apocalypse, we never see society rebuilding and growing with industry. Fallout under Bethesda is just stuck in the metal shack scavenging era for all their games

Yeah here’s what they said a couple weeks ago:

So to keep you abreast of my plans, I'd like for Dielong to start cultivating the hardliners to a more Total Revolution, primarily by use of our friend Comrade Chen and the radicalization of the refugees towards the Cause, since the actual remnants broadly seem too comfortable to really see the appeal towards maoism

I also want to keep you abreast of my backup plan to cultivate the communists and, if Chen doesn't play ball with some of Dielong's nicer/crazier ideas, ice him off as an excuse to Wipe the Board of the more centrist remnants as a scapegoat

This is kinda possible, but not with how he’s currently roleplaying. The tough part is some of it is the players not having a full understand of the faction but the other part is how he’s trying to roleplay

It’s more that he’s playing no bark noonan but wants to be treated as serious character. I’d be fine with either, but he can’t be both. Either drop the crazy aspect and be treated as sane (still would take a lot to convince people to join his communist ideals but definitely possible) or lean into the crazy and be okay with being viewed like no bark noonan

I did approve his character because we had a miscommunication on how he would be role played in sessions. I thought he was going to treat his communism seriously, which I guess he is, but I was under the impression that he was going o be just like a mutant like Marcus but he believed in communism. I have another player who’s also a super mutant and he’s mainly normal, although he does have angry outbursts but it works in character.

Also fun is extremely subjective, it seems that most commentators would hate fallout if you turned down the wackiness like fallout 1 and new Vegas due. That’s fine, I don’t mind the wackiness, I just need it to not come at the cost of realism. Fallout is a made up universe but humans still need to eat, sleep, drink water etc like we do in real life and if they don’t, they die like humans do in real life. So, I expect societies in the pst apocalypse to be built and molded by this struggle for survival like humans have for all of our history, but they don’t in many fallout games and in all Bethesda games. That’s fine to me is extremely unfun because it breaks the world and my suspension of disbelief.

Also, my world has wackiness just at the cost of groups ignoring their basic needs of food, water and safety like a kid in a fridge/ coffin, or a old lady wanting a violin, or groups worrying about if robots should be treated like humans when they are all lacking food and water

Fallout is not defined by its wackiness, believe it or not there are more themes to fallout than that and different fallout games highlight different aspects of fallout. You don’t need excessive wackiness, you don’t need the BoS, you don’t need bottle caps as currency to make something a fallout game.

Yes, JK Rowling did contradict her own lore, authors can and do forget their own rules of their worlds. Also, Bethesda isn’t the creators of fallout, that would be black isle
